Senior Research Chemist

BOREUM is a modern ingredient and beauty platform focused on building high-performance chemistries across personal care, pharma, and agriculture. Our approach is built on molecule-first thinking, where we design scalable ingredient platforms from core actives like amino acids and translate them into high-value commercial products. We are currently building a multi-SKU amino acid platform, spanning derivatives, surfactants, actives, and fermentation-based ingredients.

We are looking for a Senior Research Chemist to lead development of our amino acid-based ingredient platform, with a strong focus on personal care applications.This role sits at the intersection of:Molecule designProcess chemistryScale-upCommercial viability

You will be responsible for converting core molecules (e.g., L-Glutamic Acid) into multiple high-value derivatives and formulations.

Key ResponsibilitiesPlatform DevelopmentDevelop amino acid derivatives including: PCA salts (Zn, Na, Mg, Cu), Amino surfactants (e.g., glutamates), and Functional actives and intermediates.Build scalable synthesis pathways from core amino acids.

Process & Scale-UpTranslate lab processes into pilot and production scale.Optimize Yield, Reaction conditions, Solvent systems and Purification methods.Work closely with manufacturing teams for scale execution.

Cost & Commercial OptimizationDrive cost-efficient production models.Evaluate raw materials, process efficiency, and scalability.Support pricing and margin strategy through technical inputs.

Formulation CompatibilityEnsure ingredient stability and performance in cosmetic systems.Work with formulation teams to validate pH compatibility, stability and sensory performance.

Portfolio StrategyIdentify high-potential SKUs within amino acid chemistry.Prioritize products based on scalability and market demand.Contribute to long-term platform expansion.

Required QualificationsM.Sc / PhD in Organic Chemistry, Industrial Chemistry, or Biochemistry.5-10 years of hands-on R&D experience.Strong background in: Amino acid chemistry / derivatives, Surfactants or personal care ingredients and Process chemistry and scale-up.

Preferred ExperienceExperience with PCA derivatives, glutamates, or peptide chemistry and Fermentation-based actives (e.g., PGA, amino fermentation).Prior work in specialty chemical or personal care ingredient companies.
