Senior/Staff Engineer, Citizen Developer Infrastructure
Airwallex
Job Description
About The TeamThe Citizen Developers Infrastructure team sits within the Infrastructure & Productivity organization and is responsible for the internal platform that powers critical business processes at Airwallex. We build and operate a citizen‑developer platform that lets non‑product engineering groups safely build and run workflows and automations. Our goal is to make it easy and safe for these “citizen developers” to ship value quickly while embedding security, compliance, and software engineering best practices by default. This role is based in Singapore. What You’ll DoAs a Senior/Staff Software Engineer on the Citizen Developers Infrastructure team, you will design, build, and operate the platform services that underpin Airwallex’s citizen‑developer ecosystem and internal workflow automation. You will partner closely with application teams and citizen developers to define tooling, patterns, and development processes, while continuously improving the platform abstractions and paved paths they build on. You’ll be responsible both for the developer experience and guardrails of the platform, and for the underlying workflow infrastructure that makes it reliable and scalable.ResponsibilitiesDesign, build, and evolve the citizen‑developer platform and tools that make it easy to create and operate automation / applications without deep infrastructure knowledge.Establish secure SDLC and guardrails for citizen‑developer‑built applications so compliance and security are baked in by default.Build self‑serve development and operations tooling that reduce dependence on central platform engineers.Design, build, and maintain the Temporal‑based workflow infrastructure, addressing challenges such as multi‑tenancy, high availability, and cost effectiveness.Contribute to the Kubernetes and GitOps foundation (ArgoCD, Helm, Terraform) that powers the platform, ensuring deployments are safe, repeatable, and auditable.Participate in code reviews, technical design discussions, and on‑call rotation for workflow‑related services, leading incident response and driving long‑term fixes where needed.Document standards, best practices, and reference architectures so teams building on top of the platform have clear, self‑serve guidance.Who You AreYou are a backend/platform engineer who enjoys building shared platforms, cares deeply about developer experience, correctness, and operability, and is comfortable working at the intersection of application code and infrastructure. You get energy from enabling other teams to move faster safely, through well‑designed abstractions, tooling, and guardrails.Qualifications6+ years of experience in Software / Platform Engineering roles, building and operating backend or platform services in production.Strong hands‑on experience with at least one strongly typed backend language (e.g., Golang, Java) and familiarity with Python or Bash for tooling/automation.Experience designing and building internal platforms or developer tooling used by multiple teams, with a strong focus on developer experience.Experience with Kubernetes and GitOps practices/tooling (ideally ArgoCD and Terraform).Experience building platforms or tooling for non‑product engineering users (e.g., operations, finance, analysts) or low‑code/no‑code / citizen‑developer environments is a strong plus.Proven experience with Temporal or similar workflow/orchestration systems (e.g., Cadence, Step Functions, Airflow) or large‑scale stateful workloads (e.g., Redis clusters, Cassandra, HBase) in production is a huge plus.Comfortable working in highly collaborative, multi‑team environments, able to translate platform constraints into clear APIs, contracts, and paved paths for application teams and citizen developers.Practical, proactive problem solver who can navigate ambiguity, break down complex technical problems, and drive them to closure.
