Job Description & Duties
At CalRecycle’s Engineering Support Branch we are all about protecting California’s environment. We are seeking a Senior Waste Management Engineer to lead our team of five engineers and geologists in the Closure and Technical Services Unit. This role directs a team to ensure landfills throughout California operate, close and are maintained in compliance with State requirements, while providing engineering support to other CalRecycle program areas in policy formulation, analysis and amendment.
Success is measured by timely, accurate, consistent reviews of technical and engineering reports and by developing the unit as the foremost technical experts on landfills and their environmental protection systems.
Qualifications
- Registration as a California Professional Engineer.
- Strong technical background in landfill design, siting, operation, closure, post‑closure maintenance, investigation, remediation and engineering project cost estimating.
- Leadership and communication skills to motivate unit staff and interact with CalRecycle staff, consultants, regulated industry, the public and multiple government agencies.
- Ability to evaluate, apply and amend solid waste laws and regulations.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
- Experience managing a multi‑disciplinary engineering team.
