Job Summary
The Missile Solutions segment of L3Harris is a leader in the design, manufacture, and deployment of advanced propulsion and energetics systems, including those for rocket motors. Our customers include the U.S. Department of Defense, NASA, and other agencies. This role focuses on specifying requirements for propulsion systems.
Candidates should have a background in systems engineering and experience with Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE). The role demands meticulous attention to detail and project management under general supervision.
Key Responsibilities
- Specify Requirements: Develop comprehensive system requirements for the specification, design, and verification of propulsion systems, including applicable industry standards.
- Integration: Coordinate with cross‑functional teams to ensure requirements are met during design and verification phases.
- Risk Management: Identify potential risks and develop mitigation strategies to ensure successful project completion.
- Communication: Present findings and updates in written reports and oral presentations to stakeholders at various levels.
Essential Job Functions
- Requirement Development (60%): Develop system, subsystem, and component requirements for rocket propulsion systems' product development. Manage derivation, allocation, documentation, and change management in IP teams. Coordinate verification plans and compliance assessment using MBSE tools.
- Functional Analysis (15%): Perform functional analysis, coordinate trade studies, and select optimized concept baselines through benefit/cost trades to support system architecture.
- Risk Coordination (15%): Coordinate project risk and opportunity assessment, prepare mitigation plans, and may oversee a small staff of engineers or technicians.
- Communication (10%): Communicate results in oral presentations and written communication, represent the organization in meetings and teleconferences to resolve key questions.
Travel: Requires up to 10% travel time.
Clearance: Ability to obtain a US LEVEL security clearance.
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field and minimum 6 years of relevant experience; or Graduate Degree with minimum 4 years of experience; or, in lieu of a degree, 10 years of experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- At least 4 years of industry experience in systems engineering, preferably in aerospace or defense sectors, with focus on requirements management, risk management, product development, and liquid rocket propulsion.
- Advanced degree in a relevant field.
- Experience with IBM DOORS and MBSE methodologies.
- US LEVEL Secret Security Clearance.
Work Environment and Physical Requirements
- Office work in a standard setting using office equipment and computers.
- Physical activity: Ability to lift/carry/push/pull up to 25 pounds occasionally; infrequent walking, climbing, stooping, crouching, and bending.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills for interactions with teams and stakeholders.
- Safety equipment: May require use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses and safety shoes.
Salary and Benefits
In compliance with pay transparency requirements, the salary range for this role in California is $106,500 - $197,500. This is not a guarantee of compensation; final offer may vary based on experience and location. The role includes health and disability insurance, 401(k) match, flexible spending accounts, EAP, education assistance, parental leave, paid time off, and company-paid holidays.
