We are looking for a bright and passionate Steering Gear Quality Engineer with the skills below
Job Location - Bangalore Experience - 5 to 10 years
Key Responsibilities
Product Analysis & InvestigationConduct joint analyses with suppliers, including diagnostic data review for electrical and software issues, wear assessment, and dimensional checks.Investigate concerns such as high steering effort, poor returnability, rattles/noises, DTC faults, and correlation gapsDemonstrate hands-on experience with automotive communication protocols (CAN, Flex Ray, UDS).Analyze field returns, warranty cases, and DV/PV failures to identify root causes. Testing & ValidationSupport DoE planning and execute component-level and vehicle-level correlation studies.Apply knowledge of bench tests (EPS rigs, NVH, torque-angle mapping, durability, thermal).Understand steering software calibration, friction compensation maps, and assist characteristics. Design Review & Supplier InterfaceCollaborate with suppliers to resolve issues, implement corrective actions, and recommend design/process improvements.Familiarity with APQP, DFMEA/PFMEA, PPAP, and audit activities related to steering gear is advantageous.
Problem Solving & DocumentationLead investigations using 8D, SPD, A3, and Why-Why methodologies; facilitate cross-functional discussions with Quality, Engineering, NVH, CCQ, and Manufacturing teams.Prepare clear analysis reports, technical summaries, and risk assessments. Quality & Continuous ImprovementMonitor warranty trends, identify emerging quality risks, and optimize traceability and control plans.Support prototype builds through launch phases.
Required Skills & Experience
5+ years of experience with OEMs and a Bachelor's/master's degree in mechanical, Automotive, or Mechatronics Engineering.Hands-on expertise with EPS/EPAS systems (motor, gear design, torque sensor, controller).Strong problem-solving skills with exposure to DoE, data analysis, Six Sigma, NVH, and correlation studies.Ability to interpret technical drawings and steering calibration data.Proficiency with tools such as CANalyzer, CANape, Corvus, unified Diagnostic Service, Minitab, and NVH tools.Knowledge of vehicle dynamics and steering system behaviour.
