We are looking for a proactive and self-motivated Accountant to support the initial accounting operations of our subsidiary in Colombia. As a key player in our early adoption and growth phase, you will not only ensure that local accounting is flawless in accordance with IFRS standards and DIAN requirements, but you will also structure day-to-day financial operations (payments, operating cash flows) and support the initial layers of financial analysis that will guide our business decisions.
You’ll work closely with the finance team and other departments within the company, ensuring the smooth functioning of our intercompany operating model (mark-up).
Responsibilities
- Local Accounting and Compliance: Coordinate the full accounting cycle in Colombia in accordance with IFRS, ensuring the accuracy of financial statements.
- Payments and Treasury Operations: Structure and execute the process of preparing weekly payments to suppliers, payroll, and contractors, managing operating cash flow.
- Mark-up Model Management: Reconcile intercompany transactions under the mark-up scheme, ensuring compliance with the transfer pricing policy supported by advisors and the correct billing of services.
- Tax Compliance: Prepare and file local tax returns (VAT, Withholding Tax, ICA, Electronic Filings) in a timely manner and coordinate with external advisors or the statutory auditor when necessary.
- Initial Financial Analysis: Support the preparation of management reports, variance analysis against the budget, and cost/expense control to provide visibility to the management team.
- Process Structuring: Monitor accounting policies and implement digital tools or processes that automate financial operations, with the ability to elevate issues as needed.
Qualifications
- Certified Public Accountant with a valid professional license in Colombia.
- At least 4 to 5 years of experience in accounting/financial roles, ideally with experience at recognized audit firms or in startup/early‑stage company environments.
- Solid knowledge and experience with Colombian tax regulations (DIAN) and IFRS.
- Advanced proficiency in Excel and experience with cloud‑based accounting ERPs (e.g., Siigo, Alegra, NetSuite, SAP Business One).
- Experience leading process improvement or transformation initiatives.
- Resilience and flexibility in the face of the rapidly changing priorities typical of a startup.
Nice‑to‑Have
- Knowledge of or prior experience handling intercompany transactions and Colombian foreign exchange regulations (Foreign Exchange Regime of the Banco de la República).
- Knowledge of automation, data modeling, or systems integration.
- Experience influencing decision‑making among mid‑level and senior stakeholders.
- Experience in dynamic, high‑growth environments (BPO, shared services, consulting, or technology).
