Adults Social Worker – Adult Services – #OR111633

Somerset Council is seeking a qualified Adults Social Worker to join its Adult Services team based in Shepton Mallet, Somerset. This is a locum position paying £38.00 per hour (umbrella, non-negotiable), with a start date of 31 August 2026.

Responsibilities include: ongoing assessment of allocated cases, statutory reviews, carers' assessments, Court of Protection applications where individuals lack capacity, and effective crisis management. The role involves regular multi-disciplinary working, including with hospital health colleagues, and occasional supervisory responsibility for unqualified staff or students.

Essential requirements

• recognised Social Work qualification (BA or MA in Social Work or equivalent)
• current registration with Social Work England
• experience in adult social care within a multi-disciplinary setting
• IT literacy
• fluent English
• A valid driving licence and access to a vehicle are essential
• Experience with Learning Disabilities is desirable
