Area Child Care Director

Overview

The YMCA of Central Ohio is hiring an Area Child Care Director to support and strengthen school-age child care programs in the Pickerington Local School District. This role focuses on leading with heart, supporting working families, and ensuring every child has a safe, supportive place to grow before and after school.

Responsibilities

• Guide a team of 20–35 staff across multiple sites, championing program quality, team development, and compliance with ODJFS and SUTQ standards.
• Collaborate with school partners, families, and staff to create environments where children feel seen, supported, and inspired daily.
• Lead, supervise, and develop Site Directors/Coordinators within the assigned region.
• Coordinate staff recruitment, hiring, training, and scheduling; review and evaluate performance; motivate staff to achieve goals.
• Ensure high-quality programs by visiting child care sites regularly to observe and evaluate operations.
• Assist the Regional Director with budget development and monitor revenue and expenses to maintain budget compliance.
• Ensure compliance with ODJFS licensing, SUTQ, and YMCA program standards (including HEPA) and safety procedures.
• Provide coverage during absences as needed and maintain relationships with ODJFS, school administrations, parent groups, and related organizations.
• Support annual fundraising campaigns and committees as assigned; maintain department files and assist other Y Club / child care programs as needed.
• Organize events for Child Care programs and YMCA branches; represent programs in Program Innovation Team meetings and related projects.
• Maintain written records for children’s files and report program data for funding requirements; assist in marketing of programs and enrollment.
• Perform branch duties including building coverage and special events; complete duties required by the Child and Adult Care Food program if applicable.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 21 years of age and hold a Bachelor's degree in Education or a related field; at least two years of experience managing licensed child care programs, or an equivalent combination of Associate's Degree/CDA and experience.
• Must meet Site Administrator qualifications for ODJFS Licensed programs.
• Passionate belief in the Y’s cause of nurturing youth potential, promoting healthy living, and supporting neighbors.
• Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups and communities; proven track record of developing authentic relationships.
• Ability to foster a collaborative team approach to solving challenges; strong staff leadership and interpersonal skills.
• Must submit required ODJFS licensing paperwork and a staff medical statement; obtain and maintain training certifications (first aid, communicable diseases, child abuse recognition & prevention) as required by ODJFS.
• YMCA Team Leader certification required; if not certified, must obtain within 12 months. Team Leader Certification includes: Principles and Practices; Introduction to Volunteerism; Introduction to Leading Others; Introduction to Fiscal Management; Leadership competency assessment; Team Leader Certification Test.
