About the Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced Area Manager – Civil Construction to oversee regional operations throughout Montana with a primary focus in and around Bozeman. This leadership role will oversee multiple heavy civil and infrastructure projects while managing operations teams, Project Managers, Superintendents, client relationships, and regional growth initiatives.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background leading large-scale civil construction operations across roadway, utilities, excavation, grading, concrete, transportation, and public infrastructure projects.

Responsibilities
- Oversee multiple heavy civil construction projects across the region
- Lead Project Managers, Superintendents, and field operations teams
- Manage operational performance including budgets, schedules, manpower, safety, and profitability
- Drive regional growth and operational strategy
- Build and maintain strong relationships with owners, municipalities, DOT agencies, engineers, and subcontractors
- Review project schedules, forecasts, cost reports, and resource planning
- Ensure projects are delivered safely, on time, and within budget
- Support estimating, preconstruction, and business development efforts
- Assist with hiring, mentoring, and developing operational leadership teams
- Maintain compliance with OSHA, DOT, environmental, and company safety standards
- Collaborate with executive leadership on long-term regional planning and expansion
Project Experience Preferred
Candidates with experience managing the following project types are highly preferred:
- Roadway & highway construction
- Water/wastewater infrastructure
- Earthwork & mass grading
- Concrete paving
- Drainage & stormwater systems
- Airport & transportation infrastructure
- Public works & municipal projects
- Bridge or structural concrete projects
Qualifications
- 10+ years of heavy civil construction experience
- Proven leadership experience managing multiple projects and operations teams
- Experience overseeing projects ranging from $10M to $200M+
- Strong understanding of heavy civil construction means and methods
- Experience with DOT, municipal, and public infrastructure projects preferred
- Strong financial, operational, and scheduling management experience
- Proficiency with Primavera P6, HCSS, Procore, Bluebeam, or Microsoft Project preferred
- Excellent leadership, communication, and client management skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field preferred
- Base salary up to $180K DOE
