AI Engineer (Backend TypeScript or Python)

Austin, TX

We are looking for an AI Engineer with strong backend development experience and hands-on expertise building production-grade AI applications. The ideal candidate is a backend-focused engineer (preference for TypeScript, but open to Python) who has designed and implemented LLM-powered systems with agentic workflows, retrieval systems, and tool integrations.

Responsibilities

Design, build, and maintain AI-powered backend services and applications

Develop scalable LLM orchestration frameworks and agentic workflows

Build and optimize RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation) pipelines

Implement tool calling, memory handling, and autonomous agent loops

Create reusable AI harnesses/scaffolds for multi-agent systems

Integrate AI systems with internal and external APIs

Collaborate with product and engineering teams to productionize AI features

Evaluate and implement modern AI frameworks and tooling

Required Qualifications

Strong backend engineering experience in:

TypeScript/Node.js (preferred), or

Python backend development

Experience building AI/LLM applications in production environments

Hands-on experience with frameworks such as:

LangGraph

CrewAI

AutoGen

Experience building:

Agentic loops/workflows

RAG systems

Tool-calling architectures

Multi-agent orchestration systems

Strong understanding of API design and backend architecture

Familiarity with vector databases, embeddings, and prompt engineering

Experience working with OpenAI or other LLM providers

Nice to Have

Experience building internal AI platforms or developer tooling

Knowledge of evaluation frameworks and observability for AI systems

Experience deploying AI systems in cloud environments

Familiarity with streaming architectures and async processing

Understanding of AI security, guardrails, and reliability patterns
