Job Summary
The Nursing Associate Director will lead the Banner Estrella Medical Center – Postpartum team. This role provides leadership and operational oversight for nursing services, ensuring safe, high-quality, patient-centered care. The Associate Director supports strategic initiatives, manages staffing and resource allocation, promotes compliance with regulatory standards, and fosters professional development within the nursing team.
Collaboration with interdisciplinary leaders will drive performance improvement and maintain a positive work environment.
*Qualified candidates must have prior RN postpartum experience*
This is an Evening position typically working 2 p‑10 p m and includes an on‑call rotation with the other Associate Directors. Attendance at meetings during the day is required and may adjust shift times.

Position Summary
This position provides managerial and clinical support to patients and staff. It uses depth and breadth of clinical management knowledge to ensure high quality, safe, and cost-effective patient care and oversees the leadership of clinical, financial, and personnel management of assigned areas.
Core Functions
- Manage and facilitate patient‑centered nursing care for designated patient populations, serving as a real‑time clinical expert for unit staff and physicians for escalated problem‑solving on patients, processes, and family issues; manage unit operations to ensure efficient patient care and resource utilization.
- Lead change by developing, implementing, and evaluating quality and process improvement initiatives of the department in conjunction with the director; seek input from staff, oversee change implementation, and ensure regulatory compliance.
- Facilitate communication of system, regional, facility, and department initiatives.
- Manage and develop the operational and capital budgets and use of associated resources.
- Assure the development of staff leadership through the design of effective shared leadership models and support career advancement opportunities; function as a role model and encourage staff participation in their own development.
- Responsible for selection, orientation, onboarding, and retention; demonstrate leadership through coaching, performance evaluations, corrective actions, and development opportunities to create a culture of learning.
- Manage large single unit or multiple clinical units to ensure excellent patient care, actively develop leadership of entry‑level nurse managers while leading clinical improvement initiatives. Internal customers include patients, staff, and physicians; external customers include patient family.
Minimum Qualifications
- BSN or MSN required for all new hires; BSN required for internal transfers/promotions within 6 months of transfer/promotion.
- Current RN license in state of practice and BLS certification.
- Two years of clinical management experience relevant to patient population; strong knowledge and understanding of clinical care management.
- Demonstrates critical thinking, communication, influence, decision‑making, analytical, and flexibility skills.
- Ability to practice skills according to department and professional standards and quality requirements.
- For LTC setting: familiarity with Alzheimer’s disease and developmental disabilities.
- Employees working at Banner Behavioral Health Hospital, BTMC Behavioral or BUMG, BUMCT in a behavioral health clinical setting that serves children must possess an Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card and maintain it for the duration of employment; an Arizona Criminal History Affidavit must be signed upon hire.
- Employees working at BUMCS in a behavioral health clinical setting must possess an Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card and maintain it for the duration of employment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in nursing preferred.
- Additional related education and/or experience preferred.
