Business Analyst
Swoon
Job Description
My client — a major Canadian financial institution — is hiring a Business Systems Analyst on contract to join its Global Derivatives Technology group. This team builds and enhances the platforms behind OTC derivatives trading: trade capture, lifecycle management, and end-to-end processing across asset classes including rates, FX, credit, equities, and commodities. You'd sit close to the trading floor, working day-to-day with developers, QA, PMs, and business stakeholders across trading, risk, operations, and compliance.
The book of work is a mix of trade reporting regulatory projects and process improvement on existing trading applications — so this is a strong fit if you like living in the detail of how a trade attribute flows through to a reporting obligation. What you'd be doing: Gathering and documenting business and functional requirements — user stories, BRDs, FRDs — with clean traceability from requirement through delivery Building data mappings and validating transformations across systems; digging into data with SQL Supporting UAT: writing test scenarios and acceptance criteria, troubleshooting defects, helping shepherd releases to production Investigating production issues, running impact analysis, and driving enhancements Partnering across trading, risk, operations, compliance, and QA to keep scope and priorities aligned What we're looking for: ~2–3 years as a Business Systems Analyst within capital markets, with hands-on OTC derivatives and trade-lifecycle exposure Strong SQL and Excel for data analysis; comfort creating precise data mappings A track record authoring requirements and supporting UAT end to end Sharp stakeholder communication — you can explain a technical concept to a trader and a mapping spec to a developer in the same afternoon Nice to have: regulatory reporting exposure (Dodd-Frank, EMIR, MiFID II, UMR, DTCC), FpML/FIX, REST/JSON, Python, Murex or Calypso, and Agile tooling (Jira, Confluence). 6-month contract with strong potential to convert to full-time. One day per week on-site in Toronto's Financial District; remote the rest.
Rate range $35–45/hr depending on experience.
