Overview Surfaces Group is seeking an experienced Business Development Manager with a strong background in construction sales, commercial construction, commercial subcontracting, or architectural products. This role focuses on generating high-quality opportunities, securing profitable commercial projects, and building long-term relationships with general contractors, architects, and designers. We are looking for a proven performer who understands commercial construction sales, bid processes, and project cycles, and can drive revenue growth through strategic client development. Responsibilities Business Development & Sales: Identify, pursue, and qualify construction opportunities with GCs, architects, and designers Business Development & Sales: Conduct regular client visits, job site drop-ins, and relationship-building activities Business Development & Sales: Represent Surfaces Group at construction, AEC, and industry networking events
Business Development & Sales: Maintain consistent outbound activity to build a strong pipeline Project & Proposal Support: Track upcoming commercial projects and secure bid invitations Project & Proposal Support: Support budgeting, estimating, and proposal preparation
Project & Proposal Support: Present proposals, negotiate terms, and follow up to improve bid-to-award conversions Project & Proposal Support: Maintain accurate pipeline status and sales documentation in the CRM Market Insights & Strategy: Monitor local construction activity, bid calendars, and market trends
Market Insights & Strategy: Engage high-value contractors and project types that align with Surfaces Group’s capabilities Market Insights & Strategy: Coordinate with leadership on sales strategy, targets, and territory development Internal Collaboration & Reporting: Work closely with estimating and operations teams to align project pursuit strategy
Internal Collaboration & Reporting: Provide weekly forecasts and workload insights Internal Collaboration & Reporting: Ensure accurate CRM notes, activity tracking, and pipeline reporting Required Experience 3+ years of outside sales or business development experience in construction, building materials, subcontracting, or similar fields
Experience selling to general contractors, architects, designers, or commercial project owners Strong communication and presentation skills Ability to manage a sales pipeline, follow up consistently, and maintain CRM accuracy
Understanding of commercial construction, installation processes, estimating, or project management Preferred Backgrounds Building materials sales (stone, tile, flooring, masonry, hardscapes, architectural products) Manufacturer or distributor reps (Oldcastle, Belgard, James Hardie, Cosentino, Daltile, MSI, Laticrete, Trex)
Commercial subcontractor BD roles GC or subcontractor project management with client-facing responsibilities Compensation High performers typically earn $120,000–$180,000+ annually, based on project profitability.
Compensation Structure: $60,000 base salary 3% of net profit on every job won
Annual bid volume bonuses: $20,000 at $8M $40,000 at $10M
$75,000 at $12M+ This structure is designed for experienced sales professionals who excel in relationship-driven commercial construction environments.
