Role Description

The Cardiovascular Intensive Care Physician Assistant is a full-time, on-site role based in Buffalo, NY. The individual in this role will provide advanced practice care to patients in the cardiovascular intensive care unit, including performing comprehensive assessments, ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests, and developing treatment plans in collaboration with attending physicians. Day-to-day responsibilities include managing acute and chronic cardiovascular conditions, participating in procedures as appropriate to scope of practice, monitoring patient progress, and adjusting therapies to optimize outcomes.

The Physician Assistant will coordinate care with multidisciplinary team members, contribute to patient and family education, and ensure accurate, timely documentation in the medical record. Additional duties may involve participation in quality improvement initiatives, adherence to clinical protocols and regulatory standards, and occasional support of related cardiovascular services as needed.

Qualifications

• Candidates should possess strong clinical assessment and diagnostic skills in cardiovascular and critical care settings, including the ability to interpret lab results, imaging, and cardiac monitoring data.
• Candidates should possess procedural skills appropriate to a cardiovascular intensive care Physician Assistant, such as line placement, management of ventilated patients, and support of invasive and non-invasive cardiac interventions within scope and training.
• Candidates should possess effective communication and collaboration skills to work closely with physicians, nursing staff, therapists, and other team members, and to provide clear education to patients and families.
• Candidates should possess solid organizational and time-management skills, including the ability to prioritize multiple patients, respond to emergent situations, and maintain accurate, detailed documentation.
• Master's degree from an accredited Physician Assistant program and current NCCPA certification are required; eligibility for New York State PA licensure and current licensure or ability to obtain licensure prior to start date are required.
• Prior experience in cardiovascular ICU, cardiac surgery, or critical care is strongly preferred; new graduates with relevant ICU or cardiology rotations may be considered.
• Candidates should possess current BLS and ACLS certification; additional critical care or cardiology-related certifications are beneficial.
