Cost Manager/ Finance Manager

Hays Accountancy & Finance are partnering with a well-established and growing project-led business to recruit a Finance Manager / Cost Manager. This is a unique opportunity to join a successful organisation operating across large-scale projects, where you will play a key role in managing commercial performance, cashflow, working capital and project profitability.

Reporting directly to the senior leadership team, you will work closely with operational and commercial stakeholders to maximise revenue recovery, improve cash collection and support strategic business decision-making.

Your new role
As Finance Manager / Cost Manager, you will take ownership of the commercial and financial performance of live projects, ensuring strong cashflow management and robust financial controls.

Key responsibilities will include:

• Managing applications for payment, valuations, claims, variations and final accounts.
• Driving cash collection and improving working capital performance.
• Producing and maintaining cashflow forecasts for senior leadership.
• Monitoring project profitability and providing meaningful commercial insights.
• Supporting budgeting, forecasting and financial planning activities.
• Managing customer claims, payment disputes and contract-related issues.
• Overseeing subcontractor and supplier payment processes.
• Supporting commercial negotiations and contract administration activities.
• Acting as a trusted adviser to senior management on commercial risks and opportunities.
• Driving continuous improvement across reporting, financial controls and cash management processes.

What you'll need to succeed
To be considered for this opportunity, you will have:

• Significant experience in a Cost Management, Commercial Management or Financial Management role.
• Strong experience managing valuations, contract claims, applications for payment and final accounts.
• Demonstrable experience managing cashflow and working capital within a project-based environment.
• Excellent commercial awareness and negotiation skills.
• Advanced Excel and financial reporting capabilities.
• Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
• Experience within construction, engineering, manufacturing, infrastructure or another project-led environment.
• Professional qualifications such as CIMA, ACCA, ACA, RICS or equivalent are highly desirable but not essential.
