Job Title: Senior Data Engineer (Finance & Accounting Focus)
Location: Onsite Fremont, CA
Duration: 6+ months (with high likelihood of conversion to FTE)
Start Date: Immediate
About the Role
We are seeking a Senior Data Engineer to join our team and drive automation and data solutions for our Finance and Accounting departments. In this role, you will be instrumental in supporting critical initiatives such as accounting reporting, analytics, financial forecasting, and more. You will work end-to-end on data projects, often wearing multiple hats, and collaborate seamlessly with both business and technical stakeholders to deliver automated, data-driven solutions.

What You’ll Do
Design and implement automated data solutions to support business teams including Manufacturing, Accounting, and Finance
Own and manage projects from design through production; maintain strong stakeholder relationships and collaborate across business and technical teams
Write, maintain, and optimize scripts, processes, and jobs that power analytics and reporting solutions
Build, manage, and optimize scalable ETL pipelines — ingest data from multiple sources, apply business transformations, and load into data warehouses
Design and refine data models following best practices (e.g., star schema) for optimal reporting and analytics performance
Identify slow-running processes and bottlenecks; troubleshoot, research, and resolve performance issues
Stay current with data engineering trends; experiment with new tools, services, and real-time processing frameworks
Reverse-engineer existing projects/products and continuously improve processes, favoring open-source technologies where possible
Collaborate with audit and compliance teams to ensure data solutions meet SOX requirements, especially for finance and accounting projects
Set a high technical bar for the team - lead by example in coding standards, documentation, and engineering best practices
What You’ll Bring (Required Qualifications)
Very strong SQL skills and deep understanding of relational databases (SQL Server, MySQL, Oracle, Vertica, or similar)
Proven experience in data warehousing, dimensional modeling, and working with large-scale data
Strong programming skills in Python, Java, or similar languages
Good understanding of open-source distributed systems such as Kafka and Spark
Expertise in scalable ETL pipelines and tools like SSIS, Informatica, Airflow, Luigi, or equivalent
Knowledge of OLAP databases and tools (SSAS, Hyperion, Cognos, etc.)
Experience with reporting and data visualization tools (SSRS, Power BI, Tableau, Looker, or similar)
Excellent communication skills - able to effectively collaborate with both technical teams and business stakeholders (manufacturing, compliance, finance, accounting)
Ability to manage projects end-to-end and adapt to multiple roles as needed
Nice to Have (Not Required)
Background in Accounting, Finance, Banking, or similar industry
Experience with real-time processing frameworks
Familiarity with open-source data engineering tools and community best practices
