JOB DESCRIPTION Summary/Objective: House of Spices (India) is seeking a Data Engineer to design, build, maintain, and optimize data solutions that support reporting, analytics, and data-driven decision-making across the organization. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience in T-SQL, Azure Data Services, data warehousing, data modeling, and ETL/ELT development. This role will work closely with BI developers, IT teams, and business stakeholders to develop reliable, scalable, and well-documented data pipelines and data models.
The Data Engineer will help improve data quality, performance, and availability while supporting enterprise reporting needs, including data from Microsoft Dynamics NAV / Business Central and other business systems. Essential Functions Data Solution Development: Build, enhance, and support reliable data solutions for reporting, analytics, and system integration needs. Create, update, and optimize logical and physical data models to improve data accuracy, scalability, and query performance.
ETL/ELT Development: Build, maintain, and troubleshoot ETL/ELT processes using T-SQL, Azure Data Factory, and other Azure data services. Monitor, tune, and resolve issues in data pipelines to support reliable processing, timely data availability, and production stability. Azure Data Engineering: Develop and support data pipelines using Azure Data Factory, Azure Databricks, Azure SQL Database, and Azure Synapse Analytics.
Desirable: Support data orchestration and workflow automation using Azure Logic Apps and related Azure services. Data Warehousing: Build and maintain data warehouse tables, views, stored procedures, and related objects that support BI and reporting needs. Tune data warehouse queries and objects to improve report performance, data retrieval, and processing efficiency.
Advanced Data Processing: Use Azure Databricks to process, transform, and prepare large data sets for reporting, analytics, and downstream consumption. Maintain data lake and lakehouse data assets in Azure Data Lake Storage for structured and semi-structured data. Data Governance & Quality: Apply data governance, security, and compliance standards while developing and maintaining data solutions.
Develop and run data quality checks, validation rules, and reconciliation processes to maintain trusted and accurate data. Collaboration & Communication: Work with BI developers, data scientists, IT teams, and business stakeholders to convert approved requirements into working data pipelines, datasets, and technical deliverables. Supervisory Responsibility This position is an individual contributor role with no direct reports. The employee may be expected to share knowledge, document best practices, and support knowledge-transfer sessions for team members and business users as needed. Work Environment This job operates primarily in a remote professional work environment.
The employee is expected to maintain a reliable internet connection, use company-approved collaboration and communication tools, and work effectively with teams across India and U.S. business hours. Based on business requirements, the employee may be required to visit the Mumbai office for corporate meetings approximately one to four times per month. This role routinely uses standard technology and office equipment such as laptop computers, monitors, smartphones, and collaboration software.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday to Friday, 2:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. IST, unless otherwise assigned based on business needs.
This schedule is intended to support required overlap with U.S. business hours. Occasional evening or weekend work may be required as job duties demand. Travel No travel is expected for this position.
Qualifications Required Qualifications Graduate or post-graduate degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, Data Engineering, or a related field. 4–7 years of hands-on experience in data engineering, database development, ETL/ELT development, or related data roles. Strong hands-on experience with T-SQL, including complex queries, stored procedures, views, joins, indexing concepts, and performance tuning. Hands-on experience building, maintaining, and troubleshooting ETL/ELT pipelines using Azure Data Factory and related Azure data services.
Hands-on working experience with Azure Databricks, Azure Synapse Analytics, Azure SQL Database, and Azure Data Lake Storage in data engineering or analytics environments. Working knowledge of data lake and lakehouse concepts, including structured and semi-structured data storage, transformation, and downstream reporting use cases. Working knowledge of data warehousing concepts, including fact tables, dimension tables, star schema, and reporting-focused data structures.
Experience creating and maintaining logical and physical data models to support reporting, analytics, and data integration needs. Ability to troubleshoot data issues, validate data accuracy, and support reconciliation between source systems and reporting outputs. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and debugging skills with the ability to work under deadlines.
Good communication skills with the ability to explain technical details clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders. Good documentation skills for data pipelines, data models, transformation logic, and support procedures. Preferred Qualifications Familiarity with Azure Logic Apps for workflow automation and integration.
Experience with Azure Analysis Services and Azure DevOps. Familiarity with reporting and visualization tools such as Power BI or SSRS. Microsoft Certified: Azure Data Engineer Associate or other relevant data/cloud certifications.
Previous experience with Microsoft Dynamics NAV / Business Central data. Business process experience in the food supply and distribution industry. Experience working with global teams, global clients, or cross-cultural stakeholders.
Ability to support user training or knowledge-sharing sessions when needed.
