NDA
Job Description
To start September 2026 6-Month Internship – Long/Short Equities Data Science Analyst Duration: 6 months Employment Type: Full-time internship Team: Long/Short Equities Reporting to: Analyst / Portfolio Manager Role Overview We are seeking a highly motivated intern to join our Long/Short Equities team for a six-month internship. This role is suited to a candidate with a Master’s degree in Data Science or a closely related quantitative field, combined with a strong interest in public equities, financial markets and investment research. The role will form part of an AI-enabled investment research process.
The team uses internal AI tools to generate initial company, sector and market data packs, which provide a structured starting point for research. The intern will be responsible for taking these outputs forward: validating the data, identifying gaps or inconsistencies, conducting additional analysis, enhancing the quality of the research pack and drawing out relevant insights for the investment team. The Analyst on the team will then review, challenge and finalise the work for use in investment decision‑making.
This is a hands‑on role at the intersection of data science, AI-enabled research and fundamental equity analysis. The successful candidate will need to be technically capable, highly accurate and intellectually curious, with the judgement to understand where AI-generated outputs require further testing, refinement or human interpretation. Key Responsibilities Work within an AI-enabled research workflow to support the Long/Short Equities team’s investment process.
Review AI-generated company, sector and market data packs and assess their quality, completeness and relevance. Validate outputs by checking source data, reconciling figures and identifying errors, inconsistencies or gaps. Conduct additional data analysis to enhance the initial research pack, including company, sector, peer group and market analysis.
Use Python, Excel and other tools to clean, structure, manipulate and analyse financial and alternative datasets. Identify patterns, anomalies, trends and potential investment signals within large and varied datasets. Build or improve models, dashboards and analytical tools to support the team’s research process.
Apply data science techniques to support idea generation, monitoring and risk assessment. Summarise key findings clearly and concisely for Analysts and Portfolio Managers. Help improve the efficiency, reliability and repeatability of the team’s research process.
Support ad hoc analytical projects across the Long/Short Equities team. Maintain high standards of accuracy, confidentiality and professionalism. Research Workflow The role will broadly sit within the following research process: AI-generated initial research pack Internal AI tools produce a first‑stage data pack covering relevant company, sector, financial, market and thematic information.
Intern review, validation and enhancement The intern takes ownership of the next stage of the process, checking the AI output, improving the analysis, filling gaps, conducting further data work and preparing a more complete research pack. Analyst review and finalisation The team Analyst reviews, challenges and finalises the output, applying investment judgement and preparing the material for Portfolio Manager discussion or investment decision‑making. Candidate Profile The ideal candidate will have: A completed or near‑completed Master’s degree in Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Statistics, Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, Engineering or a related quantitative discipline.
Strong coding skills, particularly in Python. Experience working with large, complex and imperfect datasets. Good understanding of statistical modelling, machine learning and data analysis techniques.
Strong interest / passion for public equities, financial markets and investing. Ability to review AI-generated outputs critically rather than accepting them at face value. Strong analytical judgement and attention to detail.
Ability to communicate technical analysis clearly to investment professionals. Intellectual curiosity and a willingness to investigate issues independently. Strong organisational skills and ability to manage multiple research tasks.
Professional, discreet and collaborative approach. Driven to excel. Technical Skills Required: Python for data analysis, modelling and automation.
Git for software version control and development Strong data manipulation skills using tools such as pandas, NumPy and similar libraries. Strong Excel skills. Ability to clean, validate and analyse large datasets.
Familiarity with AI tools and an ability to use them effectively and critically. Desirable: SQL and database management Experience using APIs, web scraping or alternative data sources. Familiarity with Bloomberg, FactSet, Refinitiv, Capital IQ or similar financial data platforms.
Experience with visualisation tools such as Plotly, Tableau, Power BI or similar. Knowledge of NLP techniques or experience working with text‑based datasets such as filings, transcripts, broker research, news or company reports. Prior internship or project experience in investment management, hedge funds, asset management, investment banking, consulting, fintech or data science.
