Offer Description
Applications are invited for a temporary post of a Data Scientist within UCD School of Physics.
We are seeking a `Data Scientist' to lead the development and validation of the machine-learning models underpinning our miniaturized haematology analyser. The successful candidate will develop and fine-tune a Vision Pre-trained Transformer (VPT) model for the classification and differential counting of blood cells from label-free microscopy images.
You will join a multidisciplinary team spanning engineering, clinical medicine, and data science, working closely with hospital partners and commercial advisors.
The role will involve curating and analysing microscopy datasets, training and optimising the model across images acquired using commercial and miniaturised imaging systems, and evaluating its accuracy, robustness, and generalisability. Model-generated differential blood-count results will be benchmarked against established commercial haematology analysers using appropriate statistical and machine-learning performance measures.
Fixed Salary: €55,000 - €60,200per annum.
Appointment on the above range will be dependent upon qualifications and experience.
Closing date: 12:00 noon (local Irish time) on 04/09/2026.
