About The Role We are seeking a highly motivated and strategic Director of Business Development to join our client, an internationally successful, family‑owned technology leader in electrical energy distribution systems. This pivotal role involves leading the business development efforts within the sales organisation, managing a cross‑functional team, and driving growth in key markets.
The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background coupled with a proven track record in sales and market expansion within the energy, automation, or industrial infrastructure sectors. The position offers an exciting opportunity to shape the future of innovative solutions in renewable energy, smart grids, data centres, and other emerging segments. Qualifications The successful candidate will possess a completed technical degree, such as in electrical engineering or a related field.
Extensive experience in technical sales, particularly in electrical engineering, energy distribution, automation, or industrial infrastructure, is essential. The ability to quickly understand complex technical concepts and translate them into viable sales strategies is crucial. Prior experience working with energy providers, grid operators, EPC companies, data centres, or industrial clients is highly advantageous.
The candidate should demonstrate entrepreneurial thinking, market awareness, and a proactive approach to developing customer relationships and business opportunities. High willingness to travel, fluency in German, and proficient English skills are required. Responsibilities In this role, you will oversee the business development activities within the sales organisation, leading an interdisciplinary team reporting directly to the Vice President of Sales.
Your primary focus will be on expanding the company's presence in central target markets, with an emphasis on Germany and select international growth regions. You will identify, evaluate, and prioritise market, customer, and project opportunities within the industrial energy distribution environment, collaborating with sales, product management, and technical teams to develop robust business cases. Additionally, you will shape and execute strategies for market penetration in future‑oriented segments such as renewable energies, smart grids, data centres, and machinery and plant engineering.
Building and maintaining strategic customer and partner relationships will be key to ensuring a continuous pipeline of qualified opportunities. You will also be responsible for monitoring market trends, competitive activities, and technological developments to adapt strategies accordingly.
