Director - Front Office Engineering Lead (Full-stack) - Buy side trading solutions
Location: New York City, NY
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced engineer to manage and drive business expansion through an engineering lens. Working closely with a cross-asset desk as we design, architect, and build a state-of-the-art platform to empower extensive reporting capabilities, research, and real-time analytics, in support of our new global, multi-asset trading organization.
Responsibilities
- Architecture & Design Leadership: Play a lead role in the design, architecture and implementation of trading, sales, and operations workflows, ensuring alignment with business goals and engineering best practices.
- Trade-Flow Platform Development: Design and build flexible, scalable trade-flow software capable of handling diverse client-side and OMS-side integration patterns and high-throughput scenarios.
- Cross-functional Collaboration: Partner closely with Product, Trading, Operations, and Engineering teams to translate complex business requirements into robust, scalable technical solutions.
- Technology Innovation: Work alongside a cross-functional engineering team to evaluate and adopt emerging technologies, contributing to a modern, high-performance technology stack.
- AI-Driven Automation: Champion an AI-first mindset by driving automation initiatives, intelligent code refactoring, and the adoption of AI tooling to improve developer productivity and system efficiency.
- Engineering Excellence: Deliver well-designed, testable, secure, and performant code through hands-on programming, rigorous code reviews, and adherence to engineering standards.
- Production Support: Provide second-level production support, troubleshoot complex system issues, and contribute to incident resolution and post-mortem processes.
- Mentorship & Technical Leadership: Mentor and coach junior and mid-level engineers, fostering a culture of continuous learning, technical growth, and engineering craftsmanship.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related discipline, or equivalent work experience required; advanced degree preferred.
- Industry Experience: 14+ years of experience designing, building, and delivering real-time, scalable, and resilient software applications within Financial Services or similarly complex, high-throughput domains.
- Data & Persistence: Strong command of relational and analytical database technologies, e.g., KDB / ClickHouse / Oracle, with experience in data modelling, query optimization, and large-scale data management.
- Messaging & Middleware: Hands-on experience with messaging and middleware technologies such as Apache Kafka, IBM MQ, FIX protocol, with an understanding of event-driven and asynchronous system design.
- Agile Delivery: Solid understanding of Scrum and Agile methodologies, with a proven ability to deliver in fast-paced, rapidly evolving environments with shifting priorities.
- Communication & Leadership: Excellent written and verbal communication skills; able to clearly articulate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. Strong organizational skills to coordinate, influence, and drive cross-team initiatives.
- Problem Solving & Innovation: Demonstrated ability to analyze complex, ambiguous problems and devise pragmatic, innovative solutions — balancing technical rigor with delivery speed.
- AI-Augmented Development: Familiarity with one or more AI coding and productivity tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Cursor, Windsurf, Claude Code), with a willingness to leverage AI-assisted workflows to accelerate development and improve code quality.
- Experience working with Execution Management Systems (EMS) and Order Management Systems (OMS).
