Responsibilities
Laurel Oaks Behavioral Health Center is a 118‑bed Acute Psychiatric Hospital and Residential Treatment Center for children and adolescents ages four through eighteen. The 55,000 square foot facility sits on approximately 10 acres in the southeast corner of Alabama, less than 20 miles from both Florida and Georgia. In addition to the living units, the facility houses the New Day Academy, a state‑supported year‑round K‑12 grade school with vocational opportunities.
The hospital employs approximately 195 staff members.
Laurel Oaks is currently seeking a Director of Recreation/Activity Therapy. The Director of Recreation/Activity Therapy is responsible for planning and implementing recreation/leisure services for the assigned program, which involves defining and implementing treatment goals as a member of the interdisciplinary treatment team and providing continuous patient care, observation, interaction, and role modeling to patients.

Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university, required; Masters Degree preferred in Recreational Therapy, Fine Art, Music, or Expressive Therapy.
- Three to five years of related experience, with knowledge of psychiatric patient care techniques with an understanding of mental illness, preferred.
- Certification, Licensure, or Board Certification by state and/or national governing body in Recreation Therapy required. CTRS required.
