JOB SUMMARY
The Drilling Engineer provides drilling engineering planning, operational support, and ensures wells are permitted, planned, and executed in a safe, cost effective, timely and environmentally responsible manner, adhering to company policies and applicable regulatory requirements.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
- Plan safe, environmentally sound and efficient well operations through collaborative efforts.
- Perform engineering analysis of projects including calculations and equipment selection for all project phases.
- With a strong commitment to HSSE, take responsibility for planning and executing well designs and workover programs.
- Ensure well design and operations comply with corporate management standards and regulatory requirements.
- Work closely with resource teams, geologists, production and service company personnel to ensure an efficient operation.
- Provide technical support.
- Travel to field locations to monitor and participate in drilling operations and perform third-party quality assurance and quality control.
- Monitor and analyze operational progress against plans.
- Incorporate lessons learned into future procedures.
- Prepare and archive relevant documentation for well operations.
- Assist the Drilling Superintendent in the coordination of rig requirements and day-to-day events.
- Provide engineering and technical support for significant planning events and during critical well operations.
- Participate in the evaluation and operational implementation of technical innovations for continuous improvement and knowledge sharing of drilling operational performance.
- Coordinate and monitor activities of primary contractors and third-party service providers to ensure acceptable contractual performance.
- Maintain continuous and timely communications with the key stakeholders.
- Assess and manage risk with appropriate contingency planning to assure operational integrity.
- Support AES zero-incident safety culture and assume personal accountability and responsibility for safe work practices in all projects, activities, and operations.
- Other duties will be assigned to this position as needed.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor\'s degree or higher in Engineering
- 5+ years of experience as a Drilling Engineer
- 3+ years of experience working in the oil and gas industry in Alaska
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE
- Professional Engineer License
- Experience working with third-party service providers

WORKING ON THE NORTH SLOPE
While working on the North Slope of Alaska, lodging and meals are provided. Camps offer warm meals and options for quick meals. Rooms vary from single to shared, with Wi-Fi available. Facilities may include housekeeping, self-serve laundry, commissary, mail, gyms, and a theater room. Each facility has its own policies reviewed during on-site orientation.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT
The physical demands and work environment requirements are representative of those necessary to perform the essential functions. A post-offer, pre-hire Functional Capacity Evaluation (FCE) will be conducted. Reasonable accommodation may be made for disabilities.
Candidates must comply with driving records policy, pass a pre-employment drug test, and meet the physical requirements of working in a remote Arctic location. A Fit-for-Duty Exam, background check, and access badge are required. Availability is contingent upon operational needs after training.
