Job Summary
Electrical Project Engineer responsible for substation design and engineering, coordination, and mentorship of junior team members. The role involves detailed design of protection and control systems, physical design, quality review, and client communication.
Key Responsibilities and Opportunities
- Function as a technical specialist or project lead, providing project coordination, guidance, and expertise on substation projects.
- Support a variety of substation projects up to 765 kV in engineering detailed design and EPC.
- Develop protection and control design deliverables including protective relays, panel arrangements, single‑line diagrams, and schematics.
- Develop physical design deliverables such as yard layout plans, grounding, lightning protection, control building arrangements and auxiliary power systems.
- Perform or oversee quality review of electrical substation design packages.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to junior team members.
- Prepare electrical equipment specifications and bills of materials (BOM) for procurement and construction.
- Communicate and coordinate project activities with clients, vendors, subcontractors and other stakeholders.
- Present proposals, designs and project activities.
- Travel to client and vendor offices and/or project sites for design reviews, construction coordination and field verification as needed.
- Prepare and manage design budgets and schedules.
- Provide support to business development or pursuit activities.
Additional Management and Administrative Responsibilities
- Implement and communicate policies, procedures and processes for the work group.
- Ensure adherence to corporate and division programs.
- Approve timesheets and expense reports.
Preferred Qualifications
- High voltage (HV) substation design experience – physical and/or protection & controls.
- Project lead and technical specialist experience overseeing utility substation clients and projects.
- QA/QC review experience.
- Experience coordinating and communicating with clients, multidisciplinary leads and project managers.
- Proficiency with Bluebeam Revu and Microsoft Office programs.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from an accredited program or equivalent experience.
- Minimum of 5 years related work experience.
- Active engineering registration or licensure (P.Eng) to support engineer‑of‑record requirements where applicable.
- Ability to complete pre‑employment onboarding requirements (background check, drug screening, and motor vehicle records search).
Certifications

Work Environment / Physical Demands
Hybrid or flexible work options may be offered after the first 90 days of employment, based on manager discretion and job performance.
Compensation
Annual compensation range: $133,152.00 – $221,921.00 CAD for the job and location.
