Job Description
SUMMARY:
The Shop Lead is responsible for leading the day-to-day operations of the installation team while performing advanced emergency vehicle upfitting on public safety vehicles of all types. This position ensures all projects are completed safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards while meeting production schedules. The Shop Lead serves as the primary technical resource for installers, providing guidance, training, and quality oversight to ensure customer satisfaction and continuous improvement.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum of 5 years of emergency vehicle upfitting experience or closely related 12-volt electrical installation experience.
- Extensive knowledge of 12-volt electrical systems, emergency lighting, sirens, controllers, radios, camera systems, and other public safety equipment. Federal Signal Knowledge is a plus.
- Previous leadership or supervisory experience preferred.
- Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills.
- Ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams, schematics, build sheets, and manufacturer installation manuals.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and time management skills.
- Ability to lead by example while maintaining a positive, team-oriented work environment.
- Strong commitment to quality workmanship, safety, and customer satisfaction.
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record preferred.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Coordinate with Management and Production Teams company wide.
- Lead and supervise daily shop operations, assigning work to installers and monitoring production schedules.
- Perform advanced installations of emergency warning equipment, communications equipment, consoles, partitions, prisoner transport systems, and other public safety accessories.
- Review build sheets and ensure each vehicle is completed accurately according to customer specifications.
- Train, mentor, and support installers to improve technical skills and productivity.
- Inspect completed work to ensure compliance with company quality standards before delivery.
- Diagnose and resolve complex electrical and installation issues.
- Ensure all work is completed in accordance with manufacturer specifications and company best practices.
- Maintain production efficiency while minimizing rework, warranty claims, and installation errors.
- Coordinate with the Company leadership regarding workflow, scheduling, staffing needs, and project updates.
- Monitor shop safety procedures and ensure compliance with all company safety policies.
- Maintain accountability for tools, shop equipment, inventory, and materials used during installations.
- Assist in inventory management by identifying material shortages and ensuring proper documentation of parts used.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and professional work environment.
- Utilize all required hand tools, power tools, air tools, hydraulic tools, and diagnostic equipment safely and effectively.
- Perform quality control inspections throughout the build process.
- Communicate effectively with management, coworkers, vendors, and customers when necessary.
- Perform other duties as assigned by Company leadership.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to stand, bend, kneel, crouch, and work in confined spaces for extended periods.
- Ability to lift, carry, and move up to 60 pounds.
- Ability to safely operate shop equipment and tools.
- Ability to work in varying shop temperatures and conditions.
