Engineering Manager (up to £160k)
Dex
Job Description
This role is with one of Dex's trusted partner companies. We work closely with their teams to truly understand their culture, goals, and what they're looking for, so we can match you with the right opportunity and give you context about the role before you commit to a process.
The role
Forget traditional procurement software. This company is building the Agentic Operating System: a single platform where humans and AI agents manage every supplier, from intake through renewals. They're backed by leading investors, have seen rapid ARR growth, and serve a large base of enterprise customers.
You’ll join an engineering organization scaling from 45 to 70 engineers this year, taking ownership of 2-3 cross-functional teams, typically 12-20 engineers. This is a people-first role, focused on development, delivery, and quality, but it demands deep technical credibility. You’ll spend your first month immersed in the codebase, then grow into managing multiple teams.
This isn’t a hands-off, process-heavy role; it’s about shaping high-performing teams and driving technical excellence.
The work
- Lead and develop 12-20 engineers across 2-3 cross-functional product teams.
- Drive delivery and ensure high engineering quality across your teams, working closely with team leads and product.
- Contribute to architectural discussions and technical strategy, maintaining a strong technical understanding of the codebase.
- Connect engineering initiatives directly to customer value and commercial outcomes, making decisions with imperfect information.
- Oversee critical domains including contract lifecycle management, workflow automation, supplier risk, and the core agentic layer.
What You Bring
- 8+ years in software engineering, with 3+ years as an Engineering Manager at a Series A or later SaaS company.
- Proven experience genuinely leading 2+ engineering teams concurrently, with a track record of hiring, coaching, and developing engineers.
- A strong full-stack IC background (ideally TypeScript), and a willingness to immerse yourself in a new codebase for your first month.
- Ability to lead architectural discussions and independently calibrate engineering quality.
- Experience scaling an engineering organization through rapid growth (e.g., 30 to 100 engineers), demonstrably improving velocity and quality.
