Job Description
Job Responsibilities
- Under limited supervision from the Facilities Maintenance Manager at the Office of Materials and Research (OMR), manage the Safety Program for OMR labs and employees.
- Establish policies and provide technical assistance in the area of laboratory safety.
- Conduct periodic safety inspections of the SCDOT central lab, district labs, and asphalt verification labs statewide; assist in correcting any discrepancies noted.
- Maintain required materials safety data sheets (MSDS).
- Train new employees in laboratory safety.
- Oversee fire safety requirements for all OMR facilities.
- Assist with establishing and enforcing HAZMAT procedures and assist lab units in disposal of hazardous waste.
- Perform high‑level maintenance and repairs of laboratory equipment used in the testing of highway construction materials (ovens, compactors, shakers, specialized technical equipment) at the central lab, district labs, and asphalt verification labs.
- Receive incoming equipment and assist with installation and maintenance; assist with disposal of old equipment.
- Assist in OMR facilities maintenance and upkeep including repairs involving electrical, plumbing, HVAC, general and laboratory supplies, and grounds.
- Assist with OMR vehicle transactions and preventative maintenance.
- Supervise custodial activities at the central lab.
- Perform purchasing and payment activities associated with SCEIS‑SRM.
- Prepare operational reports as required, including energy consumption and workers' compensation.
- Perform annual fixed asset inventory and assist with required documentation.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Minimum and Additional Requirements
- High school diploma and 1.5 years of trades experience related to the area of employment; or an approved acceptable equivalence.
- A valid motor operator's license is required.
