Base Location: East Croydon Employment Type: Full time, Permanent/ Hybrid Salary: £Competitive DOE + 35% Bonus Overall, Purpose of the Role: One of the most exciting roles in media and events is now available. Reporting to the Managing Director of Emap’s Emerald Division your role is to increase profits by producing, managing, and driving the growth of our events portfolio.
You will be concerned with event creation, but will also have the events logistics, events marketing (Emerald), and delegate sales teams reporting to you. The brand commercial teams operate sponsorship sales, but you should be comfortable contributing to this and working in a ‘matrix’ environment. The role involves content and project management of a growing portfolio of events.
Currently these are predominately conferences and awards, and in keeping with the pace of innovation in the events space, the Group Event Director will be a driving force behind diversifying into new events formats for an exceptional event experience. We deliver outstanding events for delegates and sponsors alike, at the same time delivering commercial success. The role of the Event Director is to bring together the team behind their vision and ensure full alignment between the quality of our events and commercial imperatives.
Emap/Metropolis Emap is the business-to-business publishing division of Metropolis International, one of the leading media companies in the UK. You will be the Group Event Director of two of our five divisions, providing the events for some of the most interesting brands in business media. Key responsibilities: Management of P+L for all events.
Ownership of event research, validation, creative and production elements of both existing and new events. Team management. Strategic planning and vision for the future, understanding market trends, evaluating long term commercial potential, and reinforcing brand values.
Part of wider Emerald division executive team managing across our business, the business revenues come from subscriptions, events, marketing solutions, and lead generation. Candidate profile Ideally has worked in a media brand business, with multiple events, although we would be interested in candidates from pure-play events businesses. Your journey to Group Event Director could have come from any of the content, marketing, sales, or operations disciplines.
Has launched events themselves and can demonstrate good experience of what it takes to make exceptional events happen. Excellent communicator with exceptional negotiation and influencing skills. Ability to lead a high performing team in a fast-paced environment, while working closely with others in a matrix environment.
A proven track record of successfully developing individuals through first rate coaching and leadership. A problem solver who moves with pace and purpose. Takes proactive approach to self – development, must demonstrate an interest in technological development. Initiative- taking and competitive nature. Appreciation of wider business strategies within EMAP and across the group.

Its audience of over 400,000 developers, agents, architects, lawyers, investors, occupiers, and suppliers such as prop tech companies rely on its high-quality news, analysis, and insight every day. Property Week currently has eleven events per year.
AV Magazine The brand of choice for everyone involved in professional AV market. Its award scheme is the industry event of the year, with professionals from all over the world travelling to it. Electronics Weekly Over 150,000 design engineers worldwide look for the latest product and trend news in Electronics Weekly, its lead generation events are well known for their success.
PTQ/ Decarbonisation Technologies Petroleum technology quarterly and its website ,Digital Refining, are a treasure trove of whitepapers and technology articles for the refining industry, its sister brand Decarbonisation Technologies works with industry to show the way to sustainable fuels and energy. Events take place in India. Motor Trader The most famous brand for everyone involved in the Automotive trade.
It has five influential leading events per year. Independent Retail News (IRN) Thousands of retailers rely on IRN for product development and legal news, its award scheme brings independent outlets, multiples, and suppliers together. Duty Free News International (DFNI) A truly international brand reporting on the international duty-free industry, its events take place in Singapore, Barcelona, and Cannes.
Packaging News Packaging News reports on developments across the packaging industry, it is famous for its leading position regarding sustainability in packaging, with a major conference and awards scheme in this sector. Quality Food Awards A year long programme, awarding hundreds of quality marks for food in the UK and Ireland. Money Marketing Money Marketing is a leading B2B publishing brand for UK financial advisers operating in a highly regulated environment.
We currently have two conferences and a leading Awards gala dinner each year. Mortgage Strategy Mortgage Strategy is a leading B2B publishing brand for UK mortgage intermediaries and their suppliers. We currently have one annual conference and two leading Award gala dinners.
