Job Description
Role PurposeThe Head of Finance & Taxation is the senior-most finance professional within the Family Office, responsible for the financial stewardship of the promoter family's personal and collective wealth across generations - distinct from, but closely coordinated with, the finance functions of the operating group companies.
The role combines the discipline of a CFO with the judgement of a trusted family advisor: consolidating and safeguarding family wealth, leading all direct and indirect taxation, structuring holdings and succession across the third and fourth generations, and ensuring that every financial decision is executed with absolute confidentiality, integrity, and alignment to the family's values and long-term intent.
The role carries heightened importance in the run-up to and aftermath of the group's planned public listing, where promoter-level tax, disclosure, and holding-structure decisions must be handled with precision
Key ResponsibilitiesFamily Wealth Consolidation & Reporting
Maintain a single, consolidated view of family net worth across all members, entities, trusts, HUFs, and asset classes (listed and unlisted equity, real estate, private investments, treasury, and physical assets).Produce timely, accurate MIS and net-worth statements for the Family Council and individual members, with clear visibility of liquidity, concentration, and obligations.Establish and run the books, controls, and reporting cadence for all family-office and family-held entities
Direct & Indirect Taxation
Own the end-to-end tax function for the family and its entities: personal income tax, capital gains, dividend income, HUF and trust taxation, corporate tax for holding/investment entities, and GST where applicable.Lead tax planning and structuring across dividend flows from operating companies, intra-family transfers, gifts, and investment exits, in a fully compliant manner.Manage all assessments, scrutiny, appeals, and tax litigation in coordination with external counsel and advisors.Anticipate and act on the personal and promoter-level tax implications of the group's public listing, including capital gains, lock-in, and the treatment of any offer-for-sale or pre-listing reorganisation.
Investments & Treasury
Steward the family's investment portfolio across listed equities, PMS/AIF/mutual funds, fixed income, real estate, and private/strategic investments.Manage liquidity, cash flows, banking relationships, and treasury for family entities.Evaluate new investment opportunities and conduct or commission due diligence; benchmark and oversee external wealth managers and advisors on performance, cost, and risk.
Succession, Estate & Holding Structure
Lead the financial and tax dimensions of intergenerational wealth transfer to the fourth generation - trusts, wills, gift structuring, and holding reorganisation - in line with the family constitution and the family's stated intent.Design and maintain tax-efficient, governance-sound ownership structures for family assets and promoter holdings.Coordinate estate and succession matters with legal counsel, ensuring documents are current, valid, and consistent across the family
Compliance, Disclosure & Risk
Ensure full compliance with promoter and insider-trading obligations (SEBI Prohibition of Insider Trading), shareholding disclosures, and any FEMA requirements for overseas assets.Maintain statutory compliance - audits, ROC filings, and regulatory submissions - for all family-office and family-held entities.Identify and mitigate financial, tax, reputational, and confidentiality risks; maintain robust internal controls and a clean audit trail.
Philanthropy & Values-Aligned Giving Structure and administer the family's charitable and philanthropic giving in a tax efficient and well-governed manner, consistent with the family's values and commitments.
Advisory & Stakeholder Management
Act as a trusted financial advisor to the Chairman, the Family Council, and individual family members across generations.Coordinate seamlessly with the operating group's CFO and finance teams, statutory auditors, tax advisors, legal counsel, bankers, and wealth managers - while maintaining the independence and confidentiality of the Family Office.Build and lead a lean, high-trust finance and tax function (1-2 support staff) within the Family Office, supplemented by external advisors as needed
Qualifications & Experience Chartered Accountant (CA) is essential. Additional qualifications such as CPA, CFA, LLB, or CS are strongly preferred.15-20+ years of progressive experience in finance and taxation, ideally combining a Big 4 / specialist tax background with exposure to a family office, promoter group, wealth management, or NBFC / financial services environment.Demonstrated depth in direct and indirect taxation, capital gains and dividend structuring, and trust/estate/succession planning.Strong understanding of investment management, treasury, and portfolio oversight.Working knowledge of SEBI listing and insider-trading regulations, FEMA, and the compliance landscape for listed-company promoters is a significant advantage
