Level I Registered Nurse (RN) - PACU - Post Anesthesia Care - $32-48 per hour

Position Overview

BJC HealthCare is seeking a Registered Nurse (RN) PACU - Post Anesthesia Care Level I located in Valley Park, Missouri.

Barnes-Jewish Hospital at Washington University Medical Center is the largest hospital in Missouri and consistently ranked among the nation's top hospitals. PACU nurses work in a fast‑paced environment that tests clinical judgment and critical‑thinking skills, while collaborating with world‑renowned surgeons and anesthesiologists on complex procedures.

Role Purpose

Provides direct patient care activities including assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation within the guidelines of the standards of nursing care.

Responsibilities

• Promotes patient and family centered care in a healing environment.
• Educates patients and families on managing illness or injury, home care, medication administration.
• Participates in activities that promote patient safety, quality, and regulatory compliance.
• Participates in professional development.
• Develops, implements, and documents individual plans of care with defined goals in collaboration with interprofessional team members and the patient, family or caregiver.
• Proactively plans and ensures communication of the plan of care across the continuum of care.
• Uses critical nursing skills to assess and evaluate physical, psychosocial, and emotional needs according to standards of care.
• Assesses patient preferences and barriers, including values, emotional, spiritual, cultural, and population‑specific needs.
• Maintains a constant state of alertness and works safely and effectively as a safety‑sensitive position.

Additional Information About the Role

• Location: Barnes Jewish Hospital – Main Campus, Pre‑op/post‑op/PACU Plaza West Tower
• Shift pattern: 4x10s with rotating start times (10A/12P)
• Schedule: 24hours of call per schedule.
• PACU size: 90 bed.
• Patients: neuro, transplants, ortho, ENT, cardio, vascular, thoracic, trauma, spine.

Minimum Requirements

• Education: Nursing Diploma or Associate’s Degree in Nursing.
• Experience: None required.
• Supervisor Experience: None required.
• Licenses & Certifications: RN license.

Preferred Requirements

• Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing.
• Experience: Less than 2 years.
• Critical care experience preferred.
