Description Manager, Cross-Border Tax Location: Hybrid from Vancouver or Langley, BC. Smythe LLP is seeking an experienced and collaborative Manager, Cross-Border Tax to join our growing Cross-Boarder Tax Group. This is an excellent opportunity for a tax professional who enjoys working directly with clients, solving complex tax matters, mentoring team members, and contributing to a high-performing and people-focused practice. This role is based in our Vancouver or Langley office, with the opportunity to work in a hybrid environment following the completion of the probationary period. The Opportunity As a Manager, Cross-Border Tax, you will work closely with clients and Partners to deliver Canada–U.S. tax planning, advisory, and compliance services to high-net-worth individuals and private clients with cross-border tax considerations. In this role, you will: Manage cross-border tax planning, advisory, and compliance engagements for high-net-worth individuals with Canada–U.S. tax considerations Review tax returns, working papers, correspondence, and technical analyses prepared by junior team members, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and compliance with applicable Canadian and U.S. tax rules. Research and analyze complex tax matters, including U.S. expatriation, U.S. estate and gift tax planning, Canadian departure tax planning, and private company tax planning Collaborate with clients and Partners to provide practical, timely, and strategic tax advice Manage multiple client engagements, deadlines, and competing priorities Build strong client relationships by translating complex tax concepts into clear, actionable recommendations Coaches and mentors junior staff through regular feedback, practical training, and guidance on managing client files, deadlines, and competing priorities.
What You Bring Minimum 5 years of public practice tax experience, including Canada–U.S. cross-border planning and compliance CPA designation (Canadian or U.S.) Completion of, or progress toward, the CPA Canada In-Depth Tax Program or a Master of Taxation is considered an asset Strong technical knowledge of Canada–U.S. cross-border tax matters, including the Canada–U.S. Tax Treaty, foreign reporting requirements, and planning considerations for individuals and private clients Demonstrates a strong client-service mindset, with the ability to build trusted relationships, anticipate client needs, and deliver practical, timely advice. Clear and professional communication skills, including the ability to explain complex tax matters in a practical and accessible way to clients, team members, and external advisors A demonstrated ability to coach and support junior team members through clear review notes, constructive feedback, technical guidance, and thoughtful delegation Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities, with the ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced professional services environment A proactive, collaborative, and client-focused approach, with a commitment to high-quality work, continuous improvement, and contributing to a strong team culture Additional Requirements Ability to work from our Vancouver or Langley office, with a hybrid schedule available following probation (2 days in-office, 3 days remote) Availability to work additional hours during peak periods, including March, April, and October Commitment to maintaining a consistent work schedule to support client and team needs What We Offer Competitive salary range $105,000 - $120,000 Professional development and ongoing learning opportunities Hybrid work environment Supportive and collaborative team culture Clear opportunities for career growth and advancement #J-18808-Ljbffr
