Manager - Supply Chain Management

Job Overview : We are seeking a dynamic person to manage sourcing and procurement of mechanical components, fabrication items, and allied materials. The role requires strong sourcing capabilities, vendor management expertise, ERP proficiency, and the ability to work in fast-paced, high-pressure environments while ensuring timely material availability.

Job Responsibilities : Procurement & SourcingManage end-to-end procurement of mechanical commodities, including:Fabrication items (sheet metal, machined components, assemblies)Castings, forgings, fasteners, bought-out partsIdentify and develop new suppliers for cost optimization and risk mitigationExecute RFQs, techno-commercial evaluations, and negotiationsEnsure timely release of purchase orders and adherence to delivery schedules

Vendor ManagementDevelop and maintain a robust vendor base across fabrication and mechanical categoriesConduct supplier performance evaluations (quality, delivery, cost)Lead vendor audits and capability assessmentsDrive supplier performance improvements through structured follow-ups

Expediting & Delivery ManagementProactively expedite critical orders to ensure on-time deliveryTrack order progress and resolve bottlenecks with suppliersCoordinate closely with vendors and internal teams to prevent production disruptionsHandle urgent and short-lead-time requirements effectively

Cost OptimizationDrive cost reduction initiatives through:a) Alternate sourcingb) Value engineering / value analysis (VE/VA)c) Negotiation and benchmarkingMonitor market trends for key raw materials (steel, alloys, etc.)

Fabrication ExposureStrong understanding of fabrication processes such as:Sheet metal fabrication; Welding; machining; laser cutting; bendingAbility to interpret mechanical drawings and technical specificationsWork with engineering teams on design-to-cost and manufacturability improvements

ERP & SystemsUse ERP systems (MS Dynamics/SAP / Oracle / similar) for:a) Purchase order processing and trackingb) Vendor master managementc) Inventory coordinationGenerate MIS reports and procurement analyticsEnsure data accuracy and system compliance

Cross-Functional Team (CFT) CollaborationActively participate in cross-functional teams (CFT) involving Engineering; Production and Quality departments.Support new product development (NPD) and project sourcing activitiesAlign procurement strategies with business and project requirements

Compliance & DocumentationEnsure adherence to procurement policies and proceduresMaintain documentation for audits and complianceSupport contract management and supplier agreements

Qualification and Experience Required: Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering is desiredMinimum 8-10 years of experience in sourcing / purchasing of mechanical components and exposure to fabrication sourcing is mandatory.Experience in manufacturing / engineering industries is preferredStrong negotiation and commercial acumenProficiency in ERP systemsAbility to read and interpret engineering drawingsExposure and reasonable knowledge of Quality Systems and StandardsExperience in cost reduction and strategic sourcing initiativesExposure to global sourcing is an added advantage
