Mechanical Design Engineer
Avular
Job Description
We’re looking for an Industrial Design Engineer to join the Avular Team!
We're looking for a senior Industrial Design Engineer to join the Avular team. At Avular, we create gorgeous mobile robots that transform the way industries work. As the Industrial Design Engineer, you are the driving force behind the look, feel and physical form of our next generation of mobile robotic systems.
You translate ambitious product visions into manufacturable, robust and elegant designs, owning both the aesthetic concept and the mechanical execution that brings it to life.
This role is positioned within the Mechanical Engineering discipline, with a focus on Industrial Design.
You want to be at the heart of designing high-end robotic products where industrial design, mechanics and ergonomics come together. You lead the design direction of a product from first sketch to production-ready hardware, and you have the mechanical depth to make sure your concepts are realistically producible.
Responsibilities
- Own the design direction for assigned robotics projects, from concept and early-phase sketching through to a manufacturable, production-grade result
- Develop innovative product concepts that balance aesthetics, usability, manufacturability and performance
- Translate functional requirements into clear, elegant mechanical architectures, often with integrated compact electronics
- Communicate complex design proposals visually and present them to both technical and non-technical audiences, including problem framing and solution alternatives
- Produce high-quality 3D CAD, advanced assembly and complex surface modelling, with well-structured design documentation
- Lead and mentor a small team of engineers through the design process, from concept to production
- Collaborate closely with electronics, embedded software and systems engineers to deliver fully integrated products
- Hands-on p rototyping and testing of designs
Requirements
- 7+ years of experience in industrial/ product design for high-tech industrial or consumer products, with a strong portfolio demonstrating your design range
- Genuine integral-design strength: You are equally comfortable owning the aesthetic concept and the production-grade mechanical execution, and you know how to resolve the tension between the two
- Skilled in concept development and early-phase sketching
- Expert user of high-end 3D CAD (Siemens NX, SolidWorks, Creo, Rhino/Alias or equivalent), including complex surface modelling.
- Hands-on, comfortable with prototyping and functional testing
- Experience leading or mentoring a small mechanical/ design team through concept to production
- Creative mindset with strong attention to detail and usability
- Strong communicator, able to work closely with multidisciplinary teams
Nice to Haves
- Experience in lightweight and compact engineering, and/or robotics
- Strong understanding of kinematics, structural design principles, materials and manufacturing processes
Benefits
- Grow & Shine:Bring your vision and grow your career in a fast-paced, high-tech environment
- We’ve Got You Covered:Salary based on experience level, A non-contributory pension scheme and travel cost reimbursement mean less stress and more focus on what you love
