Salary
Salary will be commensurate with the level of education and experience of the recommended candidate.
Range:
- Career Path I: $47,000 - $66,500
- Career Path II: $48,500 - $90,500

Retirement: As a contract teacher, this position will automatically be enrolled in the Teacher Retirement Fund (TRF) through the state of Indiana, which includes a defined benefit (Pension) as well as an Annuity Savings Account (ASA). In addition, this position is eligible to enroll in a 401(a) retirement investment plan, a 403(b) Match Program, and a tax‑free post‑retirement medical expense account (VEBA).

Position Overview
The EVSC is seeking an accomplished vocal teacher for the position of choir director at McGary Middle School. Responsibilities include 2–3 levels of middle school choir, general music, and other duties as assigned. The qualified candidate should demonstrate a high level of performance in voice, as well as strong knowledge of choral repertoire, sight‑singing curriculum using solfege and vocal pedagogy.
He/she will be responsible for preparing students for competitions and performances. This position works in collaboration with other district music teachers and staff.
Qualification Requirements

Primary Duties
- Responsible for developing a healthy choral program within the Harrison Attendance district.
- Responsible for teaching all choir classes at the middle school level.
Collaborate with the Harrison Attendance district music staff throughout the full lifecycle of its program - from recruiting beginning students to preparing high school students for advanced level performance.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Other duties may be assigned.
- Teaches corporation‑approved curriculum while creating a classroom and total school environment that is conducive to learning and is appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
- Assists the administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct and develops and informs students of reasonable rules concerning classroom procedures and behavior and maintains a safe and orderly classroom environment.
- Meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and times designated.
- Employs a variety of instructional techniques, instructional media, and performance assessments, which guide the learning process toward academic achievement and curriculum goals.
- Establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects and communicates these objectives to the students.
- Assesses the accomplishments of students in a variety of ways on a regular basis and provides progress reports as required.
- Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, corporation policy, and administrative regulations.
- Administers standardized testing as directed by the EVSC and analyzes standardized testing data and adjusts instructional strategies, as needed, to maximize probability of student success.
- Plans and coordinates the work of paraprofessionals, parents, and volunteers (e.g., college students) in the classroom and on field trips.
- Recognizes the special needs of students with learning disabilities, seeks the assistance of corporation specialists, as needed and/or required, and makes appropriate individualized physical and instructional accommodations within the classroom.
- Available to serve on building‑level and corporation‑wide committees, e.g., textbook adoption, curriculum writing, test analysis, etc.
- Builds effective relationships with parents and students through regular communication and is available outside the instructional day to students and parents for education‑related purposes, e.g., open house, conferences, extra‑curricular activities, etc.
- Participate in professional growth and development through continuing education, educational seminars, workshops, conferences, membership in professional organizations of the subjects taught, and attendance at corporation‑sponsored in‑services.
- Directs, attends, and manages all facets of choir concerts, festivals, and solo/ensemble. (After school, evening, and weekend hours will be necessary.)
- Maintains an accurate inventory of musical assets as they pertain to the assigned classrooms.
- Schedules all rehearsals and performances in coordination with building administrators.
- Regularly adheres to EVSC and school policies, procedures, and rules.
- Maintains a strong, regular personal attendance record.
- Completes all other duties as assigned.
Education and/or Experience
Bachelor's degree from an accredited university.
Experience in vocal pedagogy and choral directing required.
Technological skills required. (curricular software, electronic grade book, etc.)
Piano keyboard skills strongly recommended.
Should possess a vision for excellence in performing arts at the middle school level and a strong desire to achieve success.
Must be skilled to provide choral instruction, run an effective performing and recruiting program, and be flexible to work with other artists.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
Valid Indiana teaching certificate in appropriate grade level and area of study required.
