220968 Historic Site Alternate | State Posting
If you have a love for Kansas history and would like to share this with others, then you may be interested in becoming an alternate at the Red Rocks State Historic Site in Emporia, KS. Hours are sporadic, as you would be responsible for operating the site in the absence of the site administrator or if they require assistance for school tours/events. Must be able to work weekdays/weekends when required.
Must be responsible to handle all aspects of running the site, including but not limited to: opening and closing procedures, answering phone calls daily and emails when needed, collecting admissions, greeting visitors and conducting tours, interpreting the history of the site, operating the gift shop, and monitoring the physical site. Required to have a basic knowledge of computers and ability to learn and operate our TAM retail system. Applicants should have a willingness to learn the tour interpreter’s manual and have a general affinity for history.
Must be self-motivated and able to work mostly alone without direct supervision.

The Kansas State Historical Society is seeking a part time staff member for the historic Constitution Hall located in Lecompton, Kansas. Constitution Hall is tied to the history of Territorial Kansas and Bleeding Kansas as proslavery; abolitionist and free state forces vied for control of the territory’s governance and future. Duties include opening and closing the historic site, providing guided tours, greeting and orienting guests for their self-guided tour, processing retail sales and light janitorial work.
It is a great opportunity for someone with a love of history and sharing it with guests. The historic site is open year-round to the public 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. Wednesday – Saturday and 1 - 5 p.m.
Sunday. Closed on state holidays.

The Historical Foundation employs people in fundraising, retail sales, membership development, and clerical positions. The Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit foundation that supports the programs of the Historical Society.
