Job Description
We're looking for a detail-oriented and proactive Payroll Officer to join Brandbank and support the smooth administration of payroll services across our retail brands.
Reporting to the Payroll Manager, you'll play a key role in ensuring our people are paid accurately and on time while maintaining employee records.

The Role
- Ensure accurate authorisation of timesheets in line with awards, policies, and legislation.
- Perform end-to-end payroll duties for retail brands in AU and NZ (fortnightly) and the Support Office (monthly).
- Process payroll adjustments, including taxation, superannuation, termination payments, and other compliance-related items.
- Validate payroll data and conduct audits on leave accruals, pay codes, and employment status to ensure accuracy and compliance.
- Ensure compliance with superannuation, child support, paid parental leave, WorkCover, and other statutory obligations.
- Process EFT bank files, STP reports to the ATO, and distribute pay slips.
- Prepare finance reports, including costings, tax records, and payroll expenses.
- Ensure accurate employee setup and ongoing updates in payroll and time-tracking systems.
- Support retail store teams in using Humanforce for attendance and rostering.
- Assist managers in resolving compliance issues before pay run deadlines.
- Respond to payroll queries from employees and management with confidentiality and professionalism.
- Liaise with external organisations, including the ATO, superannuation funds, Centrelink, and ABS, as required.
- On-site role 5-days per week, based in our St Kilda Road offices.
The Ideal Candidate
- Minimum 5+ years’ experience in a similar payroll officer role, ideally within retail.
- Relevant tertiary or equivalent qualification preferred but not essential.
- Strong knowledge of time & attendance practices, rostering principles, and payroll systems (experience with Humanforce/TimeTarget highly regarded; MicrOpay preferred but not essential).
- Exposure to NZ payroll administration and legislation is highly regarded.
- Good understanding of awards and award classifications, including the Modern Retail Award.
- Proficient in MS Office, with intermediate to advanced Excel skills (vlookups, pivots).
- High level of initiative, attention to detail, and ability to multi‑task to meet tight deadlines.
- Excellent communication and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
- Strong time management and prioritisation skills to handle multiple payroll and HR tasks efficiently.
