Job Description
Overview
Northrop Grumman Space Systems is seeking a Computer Aided Design (CAD) / Computer Aided Modeling (CAM) Engineer – Level 3 to support radar system development programs in Colorado Springs, CO. The role involves developing and maintaining the radar systems configuration baseline and supporting technical data for the program. The candidate should be detailed oriented, able to work collaboratively with multi-disciplined teams, and have a proven track record of accurately documenting and maintaining a configuration baseline.
Responsibilities
- Create and maintain engineering drawings, specifications, and as-built documentation.
- Check layouts and drawings for clarity, completeness, conformity to standards, procedures, specifications, and accuracy of calculations and dimensioning.
- Identify design errors, omissions, and deficiencies, and recommend revisions and/or improvements to responsible engineers or designers.
- Support the overall Production Lifecycle Management System.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Science with 5 years of professional experience; Master’s degree in Science with 3 years of professional experience; PhD with 1 year of experience.
- Active U.S. Government Secret security clearance at time of application, current and within scope.
- Ability to travel up to 10%.
- Experience with 3D CAD modeling software packages (NX, Creo, and/or SolidWorks).
- Experience with generation and creation of engineering drawings compliant to ASME standards.
- Experience with indentured part list generation and drawing tree levels of indenture.
- Experience with establishment and maintenance of a system configuration baseline.
- Understanding of mechanical design principles, analysis, and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing.
- Experience with production lifecycle management systems (Siemens Teamcenter, Windchill, Enovia, or ARAS).
- Ability to perform project engineering functions for a small group of engineers (task management, customer interactions, working with program management to address schedules and work scope).
- Ability to present and articulate complex designs to internal and external customers.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Excellent time management and organizational skills.
- Able to focus on both micro and macro details of a complex system of systems.
Preferred Qualifications
- Active U.S. Government Secret security clearance current and within scope.
- Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field.
- Experience with Siemens Teamcenter for managing products and CAD data.
- Experience driving drawings and specifications across the entire product development life cycle.
- Experience/knowledge in design verification and verification reporting.
- Experience designing and modeling mechanical hardware interfaces (e.g., mounting bracketry).
- Experience with cable management and cable assembly requirements for RF and fiber optic applications.
- Experience with integrated electrical systems setup, testing, and issue resolution.
- Experience integrating instrumentation (mechanical and electrical) including electrical checkout of sensors and data acquisition hardware.
- Knowledge of test design and execution.
- Experience working in a government contracting environment.
- Experience with USAF/DoD radar systems.
- Experience with AI drafting assistants to generate 3D models from text prompts.
- Experience with USAF Technical Orders.
- Experience with AGILE, SCRUM, DevOps.
Salary and Benefits
Primary Level Salary Range: $94,200.00 - $141,200.00
Other compensation may include overtime, shift differential, discretionary bonuses, and long-term incentives. Benefits include health insurance, life and disability insurance, savings plan, paid holidays, and PTO for vacation and/or personal business.
