The role:
As a Principal Engineer in Agency Growth, you will be the technical authority for solution architecture and system design across our portfolio.
While the role is anchored in architecture and setting the standard for technical excellence, it is also deeply hands-on. You will work closely with teams to prototype solutions, contribute to critical code, and help them solve their most complex engineering challenges using agile practices.
Your influence will span multiple Engineering Managers (EMs) and Senior Engineering Managers (SEMs) directly guiding the work of 3 engineering squads within Agency Growth and shaping the direction of additional squads across the wider CP&S portfolio.
Key outcomes:
- A clear technology strategy for your area is established, supporting its objectives and aligned with the overall REA technology strategy.
- Technology solutions within your area are consistently delivered in alignment with the established strategy and REAs architectural principles.
- Actionable plans are developed and actively pursued to improve system health within your area, in accordance with the REA System Health Framework.
- REA is increasingly recognized as a technology thought leader externally.
Responsibilities:
- Active participation in the definition of a clear technology strategy for your area through collaboration with Architects, Directors of Engineering, and Engineering Managers.
- Partner with Engineering Managers to ensure that technical solutions are delivered in alignment with the strategy.
- Develop and drive actionable plans to improve the health of systems in your area.
- Promote exploration of emerging technologies and innovative practices to maintain REAs technology strength.
- Design high-quality, user-centric, cross-squad solutions in collaboration with diverse stakeholders.
- Foster a vibrant and connected internal technology community through engagement and contributions to knowledge sharing.
- This role involves aligning technical strategies with the Head of Engineering, Other Principal Engineers, Engineering Managers, Architect and Product Managers to influence squad / tribe direction.
- Demonstrated ability to influence technical direction across teams, without direct authority. Strong track record of coaching and mentoring engineers. A powerful advocate of the right and ethical use of AI to further the business needs and enable process optimisation.
- Exceptional ability to articulate complex technical concepts to diverse stakeholders, including senior leadership and non-technical audiences.
