By blending creative ingenuity with real estate expertise, LDI is redefining what’s possible in the built environment.GENERAL DESCRIPTIONReporting to the CEO, the Principal of the Multi-family Studio is responsible for operations, staff performance, financial profitability, staff development and growth of his/her group, consistent with LDI’s polices and approved business plan. Oversee the Group’s Associate Principals, Designers and Project Managers and assure technical and financial performance of all projects to meet Quality & Cost Assurance standards. Oversee the Group’s organizational staff development and administer LDI’s policies and programs.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Leadership & StrategyLead the Group, facing challenges, solving problems, and motivating teamsDevelop and implement the Group’s business plan to strengthen market positionBuild and maintain client relationships, serving as a Client SponsorBusiness & Financial ManagementReview and approve all bids, proposals, and contracts for accuracy and profitabilityNegotiate pricing, work scope, and terms in alignment with company policiesSupervise financial operations, including billings, variances, and write-offsTalent Development & Team ManagementOversee career development plans, training programs, and evaluationsManage all personnel decisions, including hiring, promotions, and salary reviewsDesign & Project ExecutionLead programming, feasibility studies, and construction administrationEnsure high-quality designs that meet client expectations without impacting profitabilityStamp and seal drawings as a licensed architect; obtain additional licenses as neededProvide technical guidance and support for Associate Principals and Project ManagersGrowth & Market PositionMarket company services in coordination with leadership teamsSecure new business opportunities to maintain steady project flowMonitor key performance indicators and optimize labor utilizationUphold compliance with state/local codes, accessibility requirements, and industry standardsQUALITIESLeadership & Initiative: Demonstrates strong leadership, problem-solving, and motivational skills; self-starter who thrives without micromanagement.Code & Compliance Knowledge: Deep understanding of state/local building codes, accessibility standards, and professional ethics in architecture.Communication & Presentation: Skilled in persuasive communication with clients, teams, and public audiences; fluent in spoken and written English.Judgment & Decision-Making: Exercises sound judgment, discretion, and reasoning in dynamic, deadline-driven environments.Detail-Oriented & Organized: Highly observant with strong attention to detail, document review skills, and disciplined organizational habits.Relationship Building: Builds trust and influence across all organizational levels; experienced in negotiation and conflict resolution.Creative & Aesthetic Sensibility: Possesses a strong aesthetic sense and a genuine interest in the arts. TRAVEL REQUIREMENTSThis position will require up to 50% local travel SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIESThis position will be responsible for the supervision of Associate Principals, Designers, and Project Managers.EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCEEducation: Bachelor’s Degree (BA/BS), preferably in Architecture, or related fieldArchitectural License: Required license in all states where projects are locatedExperience:15+ year’s exp. in Multi-family low-rise and high-rise projectsProven Business Development experience is a mustSoftware Proficiency: Advanced skills in REVIT, MS Office required, Photoshop and/or InDesign a plusBuilding Type: multi-family/mixed-use high-density
