About the role
Engineer, Software: Responsible for the design, development, integration, validation, and sustainment of software systems, manufacturing applications, and equipment software supporting Manufacturing Engineering and Operations. Develops scalable software solutions that connect manufacturing equipment, automation systems, Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES), operational databases, business intelligence platforms, and enterprise applications to enable reliable, efficient, and compliant manufacturing processes.
Responsible for analyzing, designing, programming, debugging, testing, validating, and modifying manufacturing software applications. Interfaces with internal customers to define system requirements, evaluate technical solutions, and implement software architectures supporting manufacturing equipment, process automation, data acquisition, visualization, and digital manufacturing initiatives. Develops software using current programming languages, industrial communication protocols, and software engineering best practices while ensuring compliance with Boston Scientific Quality System and regulatory requirements.
Your Responsibilities Include
- Designs, develops, debugs, modifies, validates, deploys, and sustains manufacturing software applications using current programming languages, software development methodologies, and engineering best practices.
- Designs, defines, and implements software architecture, system requirements, functional specifications, input/output processes, system interfaces, and working parameters using current software and systems engineering methods. May include simulations, mathematical analysis, and system interaction analysis.
- Develop machine control software and integrates software with manufacturing equipment, PLCs, motion controllers, vision systems, electrical test systems, barcode and labeling systems, robotics, sensors, and industrial instrumentation.
- Designs and develops scalable software applications supporting Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES), Manufacturing Data Management Systems (MDMS), Production Information Management Systems (PIMS), Process Integration Applications (PIA), XUI Operator Interfaces, TREX applications, Watchdog monitoring systems, and other manufacturing software platforms.
- Designs, develops, and maintains relational databases including data modeling, SQL development, stored procedures, optimization, monitoring, reporting, and database administration supporting manufacturing applications.
- Develop software interfaces supporting industrial communication protocols including OPC-UA, TCP/IP, HTTP, REST APIs, and other manufacturing communication standards.
- Leads project teams in defining software requirements, evaluating technical feasibility, estimating engineering effort, and developing software solutions supporting manufacturing automation and digital transformation initiatives.
- Integrates software solutions with business intelligence and visualization platforms including Power BI and similar reporting technologies.
- Supports all phases of the Software Development Lifecycle including requirements definition, architecture, design, coding, unit testing, integration testing, validation, deployment, change management, and sustainment.
- Coordinates software verification and validation activities ensuring compliance with Boston Scientific Quality System requirements and applicable regulatory standards.
- Tracks software development activities using approved lifecycle management and changing control systems.
- Documents software development activities by preparing technical specifications, software design documents, validation documentation, reports, change requests, and engineering records in accordance with approved procedures and standards.
- Solves complex engineering problems by analyzing manufacturing systems, software architectures, and automation processes while recommending corrective actions and long-term improvements.
- Analyzes and coordinates hardware/software partitioning, software integration strategies, cybersecurity considerations, and complete manufacturing system integration using systems engineering principles.
- Continuously improves software development methodologies, manufacturing workflows, and engineering processes through collaboration with cross-functional teams.
- Drives innovation by evaluating and implementing new software technologies supporting Digital Manufacturing, Industry 4.0, Manufacturing Intelligence, data analytics, automation, and operational excellence.
- Provides technical leadership and mentors software engineers and cross-functional engineering teams in software engineering methodologies, manufacturing systems, automation technologies, and software lifecycle management.
- Participates in cross-functional engineering initiatives supporting new equipment introduction, manufacturing transfers, process improvements, capacity expansion, and digital transformation projects.
What we're looking for
- Bachelor or Licenciature degree in Electromechanical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Systems Engineering.
- Experience: Minimum of 7 years of relevant experience.
- Preferred English proficiency: 80-89%.
