Private Client Services Tax Manager

Job Description
Most Tax Manager roles give you more returns to review and more deadlines to manage. This one gives you a much broader role in your clients' financial lives.
A leading public accounting and advisory firm is looking to add a Private Client Services Tax Manager to its growing PCS practice. You'll work directly with high-net-worth and ultra-high-net-worth individuals, families, business owners, trusts, and estates across complex compliance, planning, and advisory matters.
The work extends well beyond annual filings. You'll become a key advisor to clients navigating significant wealth, closely held businesses, investments, gifting and estate considerations, and other complex tax decisions while working alongside experienced professionals across the firm's broader advisory platform.
Compensation: $130,000–$165,000 base salary + bonus, depending on experience, technical background, and market.
Responsibilities
- Manage complex tax engagements for high-net-worth and ultra-high-net-worth individuals, families, trusts, estates, and closely held businesses
- Review complex individual, fiduciary, gift, estate, partnership, and related tax returns
- Develop and execute year-round tax planning strategies for private clients
- Advise clients on income tax planning, wealth transfer, gifting, trusts, estate considerations, and closely held business matters
- Work with clients whose financial lives span operating businesses, investment entities, real estate, trusts, and other complex structures
- Serve as a primary day-to-day advisor and build long-term relationships with clients and their families
- Coordinate with attorneys, wealth advisors, investment professionals, and other outside advisors on integrated client matters
- Research complex tax issues and translate technical guidance into practical recommendations
- Manage engagement scope, budgets, staffing, deadlines, and overall delivery
- Review work and provide technical direction to Seniors and Staff
- Mentor and develop junior professionals within the Private Client Services practice
- Identify additional planning and advisory opportunities within existing client relationships
- Collaborate across tax and advisory teams to provide clients with broader firm resources
Qualifications
- 6+ years of progressive public accounting tax experience
- Current Tax Manager, experienced Senior Tax Manager, or equivalent private client tax experience
- CPA required; advanced tax degree is a plus
- Significant experience serving high-net-worth and ultra-high-net-worth individuals and families
- Strong individual and fiduciary tax experience
- Experience with trusts, estates, and gift taxation
- Strong understanding of pass-through entities and closely held businesses as they relate to individual owners
- Experience providing tax planning and advisory services beyond annual compliance
- Ability to independently manage sophisticated client relationships
- Strong technical research and problem-solving skills
- Experience reviewing complex returns and developing junior professionals
- Ability to communicate confidently with clients, attorneys, wealth advisors, and other professional advisors
Why This One Is Worth a Conversation
Private Client Services is different when you're given the opportunity to understand the entire picture.
Instead of working on one piece of a client's tax situation, you'll advise individuals and families across the interconnected issues that come with significant wealth — income taxes, investments, businesses, trusts, estates, gifting, and long-term planning.
You'll work with sophisticated clients, have direct access to senior leadership, and build the kind of relationships where you're involved throughout the year rather than simply when a return is due.
For someone who enjoys the technical side of private client tax but wants to become a more complete advisor, this is a platform where you can build a career around both.
All inquiries will be handled confidentially.
