Job Description
Project Accounting Manager Reporting to the Senior Finance Manager, this role is located at the Port Hope, ON site and is responsible for leadership of project accounting for the Industrial East division. The role ensures compliance, accuracy, and efficient financial management across construction projects. Responsibilities Lead a team of project accountants.
Account for financial management of projects, including gross profit, project % complete forecasting, WIP, revenue recognition, and backlog. Oversee cost management activities such as cost reconciliation, analysis, and control measures. Guide and improve processes for cost‑reimbursable billings and resolve billing discrepancies to expedite revisions.
Review and input on project‑level cash flow forecasting, KPI tracking, and profit performance. Partner with operations to ensure accurate accounts payable and subcontractor accruals, and maintain up‑to‑date reporting on outstanding payments and collections. Conduct regular cost reviews and reconciliations, identifying and resolving discrepancies or variances.
Audit project P&L reports to guarantee accuracy and compliance with company policies and accounting standards. Monitor project profitability, including claims management, to identify risks and opportunities. Oversee month‑end, quarter‑end, and year‑end close processes, including reconciliations and financial reporting.
Collaborate with project managers, directors, and other stakeholders to provide financial insights for project planning and execution. Ensure compliance with financial regulations, internal controls, and external audit requirements. Handle ad‑hoc financial assignments and projects as required.
Support project closeout processes. Respond to requests from internal and external auditors. Act as liaison between the district finance team and operational counterparts.
Drive improvements in financial systems, reporting tools, and processes (e.g., ERP enhancements, automation). Qualifications University degree in Accounting, Finance, or relevant work experience. CPA or other professional designation (asset).
At least 4 years of proven leadership experience. Advanced Excel proficiency, including complex formulas, XLOOKUP/INDEXMATCH, and arrays. Proficiency with ERP systems; experience in Viewpoint Vista or InEight (asset).
Experience in industrial construction and public companies (asset). Strong relationship‑building skills with multiple stakeholders. Excellent prioritization, time‑management, and ability to work under pressure in a dynamic environment.
