Position: Critical Care Registered Nurse
Employment Type: Permanent Part-Time (48 hours per fortnight)
Classification: Registered Nurse Level 1, Year 3
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and motivated Registered Nurse (Critical Care) to provide comprehensive, evidence-based care to a defined patient group within the unit.
Reporting to the Nurse Unit/Clinical Manager, you will play a key role in delivering high standards of clinical practice while supporting and guiding junior Registered Nurses, Enrolled Nurses, student nurses, AINs, and other Health Care Assistants.
This role requires strong clinical capability, leadership within the team environment, and a commitment to safe, patient-centred practice.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical & Professional Practice

Deliver direct nursing care to a specific patient population within Critical Care

Conduct comprehensive, patient-centred assessments and maintain continuity of care from admission through to discharge

Develop, implement, evaluate, and adjust individualised care plans and clinical pathways

Maintain and coordinate discharge planning
-
Participate in team leader responsibilities as required

Provide clinical oversight and support to Enrolled Nurses, AINs, and students
-
Uphold infection prevention and control standards in accordance with organisational guidelines
-
Maintain annual competencies and emergency procedure certifications
-
Practice in accordance with relevant legislation, AHPRA standards, organisational policies, and industrial agreements
Documentation & Handover

Ensure accurate, timely, and professional clinical documentation

Complete clinical pathway documentation and variance analysis

Provide comprehensive handover across shifts
-
Collaborate with Nurse Unit Manager, Nurse Educator, and Medical Officers regarding patient care adjustments
Communication & Teamwork

Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to achieve service excellence

Act as a patient advocate, supporting informed decision-making

Maintain professional conduct with patients, families, colleagues, and external stakeholders

Resolve workplace matters professionally and in accordance with policy

Provide support across wards when required based on service demand
Quality, Safety & Professional Development

Participate in quality improvement and accreditation activities

Comply with Workplace Health & Safety (WHS) requirements

Complete mandatory training and achieve required annual education points

Participate in performance management processes

Contribute to teaching, mentoring, and preceptorship programs

Demonstrate sound knowledge of legal and professional nursing responsibilities
Essential Selection Criteria
-
Current registration with AHPRA
-
Bachelor of Nursing (or equivalent qualification)
-
Previous ICU, CCU, and/or HDU experience
-
Demonstrated competence as a clinical nurse
-
Ability to work autonomously and effectively during high-demand periods
-
Strong commitment to patient-centred care and professional standards
Desirable
-
Postgraduate qualifications or specialty certification in Critical Care

Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills

Demonstrated leadership capability within a clinical team
