Main duties of the job Full support will be given to achieve your developmental needs, including a supernumerary period. You will receive a Critical Care Developmental pack to work through – a transferable document of competence, to display evidence & training undertaken. ICU experience is preferable but not essential; experienced or newly qualified Band 5 nurses can apply.
Full support for preceptorship will be given. The department is committed to appraisal, continuous education and professional development. You will be required to participate in providing 24‑hour cover.
You are expected to care for level 2 and 3 patients. Working for our organisation We operate from three main hospitals – Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal – as well as a number of community health care premises including Millom Hospital, GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre. FGH and the RLI have a range of general hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various consultant‑led services.
WGH provides a range of general hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non‑life‑threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses. All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.

Education and qualifications Registered Nurse (on the relevant part of the register for the post) Willingness to undertake further training relevant to the post and to use and maintain these skills in the delivery of care Willingness to undertake teaching, mentoring and/or assessing qualifications Post‑registration clinical course appropriate to area Alert course, ILS, PLS, ALS Experience Working within a multidisciplinary team Evidence of recent professional development Previous experience within designated area Experience of mentoring and assessing junior staff Evidence of implementing change Skills, ability and knowledge Specific clinical skills appropriate to speciality or willingness to undertake IT skills – use of email, word processing, internet searching Ability to communicate effectively both written & verbal Knowledge of Clinical Governance agenda Knowledge and skills obtained in a relevant band 5 post Employer certification / accreditation badges You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
