Ministry HR Group is a Texas-based HR Consulting firm for Christian ministries, churches and mission organizations. We support specialized HR programs such as hiring for Statement of Faith alignment, Biblical conduct expectations, ministerial exceptions, deputized fundraising, sabbatical leave, parsonage compensation, Christian health benefit programs and more.
We are seeking a Fractional Ministry HR Director to provide strategic HR Leadership roles for our clients. The role is remote with some travel to the Dallas, Texas area.
The Fractional Ministry HR Director will support our ministry, church and mission clients by leading HR strategies, HR program design and implementation, and cultural transformation. Acting as a consulting member of the client organizations’ management teams, the role provides full-suite HR functional design, and advises on best people practices for a ministry or mission context. We support all areas of Human Resources for our clients, including recruiting, hiring, compensation, benefits, training and development, performance management, employee engagement, policies and compliance, organizational development, Christian ministry guidance, and more.
This role balances many areas to be successful: warmth within guidelines; ministry within government laws; truth and kindness; time, quality and cost; and client needs with best practices.
Please note that this position is part time, non-exempt, and mostly remote with some on-site meetings in Dallas, Texas. Working hours occur Monday through Friday, 25-35 hours per week during the core hours of 9am-4pm CT. We have flexibility in the weekly schedule as long as the Fractional HR Director attends all scheduled client and team meetings.
This position reports to the CEO / Co-Founder of Ministry HR Group.
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES
- A minimum of 7 years as HR Director, including leading change all areas of HR
- A minimum of 5 years of leading HR at a Christian ministry, church or mission
- Deep understanding of church and mission HR laws including ministerial exceptions, deputized fundraising, parsonage allowances, hiring for religious non‑profits, and more
- A degree in Human Resources or Business Leadership, or equivalent HR experience
- Hold a current US‑based Professional HR certification (SHRM or HRCI preferred)
- Consulting experience is an asset
- Proven ability to lead and implement every area of HR except payroll
- Proven ability to coach and guide Executives on Biblical people practices
- Excellent verbal and written communication and group presentation skills
- Desire and ability to learn new ways of addressing HR issues
- Proven ability to innovate and create new programs
- Ability to consistently provide high quality, detailed and accurate work product
- Ability to switch between client contexts as an HR Leader
- High social intelligence and ability to discern appropriateness of performance and behavior and coach others to the same
- Ability to lead by example with positive and professional behavior in every situation
- Ability to find and accurately apply Biblical references in HR coaching, materials and communication
- Consistently maintain a Professional Remote Office and appearance
- Align with Ministry HR Group’s HR culture, style and processes
- Must maintain a home address within the state of Texas, within 100 miles of Dallas, Texas
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide Fractional HR Consulting and Executive Coaching
- Represent Human Resources on Leadership Teams for client organizations
- Work with clients’ Leadership to develop and implement HR Strategies and programs, focusing on reinforcing the clients’ cultural values & business objectives
- Support the Christian nonprofit clients with values‑based people programs
- Advise on Organizational Development and Change Management
- Provide coaching and advising at all levels, on key people issues and compliance
- Identify key performance indicators for the human resources functions; assess the organization’s success and market competitiveness based on these metrics
- Always be learning, innovating, creating, and reaching for new ways to engage people in the client mission
- Provide in‑house advice and support to Ministry HR Group team members
- Travel to Client office in Plano at least once a week
- Actively participate in Ministry HR Group meetings and community
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES
- Travel to Ministry HR Group staff events as requested (rare).
- Manage or perform special HR projects as needed.
PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS
- Must reside in the state of Texas, within 100 miles of Dallas, Texas
- Desk work for up to 35 hours per week
- Operate a laptop, keyboard and mouse for up to 35 hours per week
- See and proofread fine details on a screen
- See and analyze color
- See and recognize facial expressions and body language
- Speak, hear and communicate in meetings for up to 5 hours a day
- Focus on extremely confidential, sensitive and emotional issues for several hours at a time
- Focus and analyze large spreadsheets, databases and reports of complex data for up to 4 hours at a time
- Maintain calm, focused and objective leadership in stressful, demanding or conflict‑heavy situations for up to 4 hours per day
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
Ministry HR Group is a small consulting firm, looking to pay fair market value for qualified talent. This role pays $50-60 per hour for 25-35 hours per week. We provide paid time off, paid SHRM memberships and referral bonuses. We do not provide healthcare benefits at this time, but we look forward to the day when we can.
