Remote Web Application Developer
Outerbox
Job Description
The Web Application Developer designs and builds resilient software for complex applications, focusing on API development, data services, and cloud-based infrastructure. The role calls for solid programming fundamentals - data structures, system design, and sound tradeoffs - applied across languages rather than tied to any one stack. The developer integrates AI capabilities into our applications and uses AI development tooling (Claude Code, Cursor, AI-enabled CLI tools) and AI DevOps practices as a regular part of the workflow to build, iterate, and ship with greater speed and quality.
Responsibilities include maintaining clear documentation, experimenting with new technologies, and contributing to implementation phases to ensure code quality and efficiency. Day-to-day work spans a modern JavaScript frontend, a server-side language, and AWS infrastructure; exposure to Vue.js or React and PHP/Laravel is a plus. What You'll Do Every Day Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform these essential functions.
System Design familiarity with PHP/Laravel is welcomed. Hands-on experience integrating third-party APIs (including generative AI providers such as OpenAI, Anthropic, or Google) into working applications, with a basic understanding of rate limits, retries, and failure modes. Comfort using AI-powered development tools - such as Claude Code, Cursor, GitHub Copilot, or equivalent - as a regular part of your engineering workflow.
Familiarity with AI DevOps practices: using AI tooling across the SDLC for code review, automated testing, deployment pipelines, and application monitoring. Solid experience with SQL for data manipulation and analysis. Familiarity with data tools like Pandas is a plus.
Proven ability to build, deploy, and manage applications in cloud environments, specifically AWS. Experience designing APIs and service contracts for data integration across systems, with fluency in at least one paradigm (REST, GraphQL, gRPC, or event-driven messaging) and an understanding of versioning, error semantics, and backward compatibility. Experience working with structured data and running extract, load, and transform (ETL) processes.
Skilled at debugging and solving technical problems, including those specific to AI-integrated systems. You can tackle challenges head-on, both independently and within a team. Comfortable resolving technical roadblocks during development to keep projects moving.
Effective communication with the ability to break down technical ideas and concepts for non-technical stakeholders.
