Job Description
A Librarian in an IB school is not just a custodian of books but a learning facilitator and information literacy leader who supports inquiry-based learning across PYP, MYP, and DP programmes. Key Responsibilities:1. Library ManagementManage and organize print and digital library resources (books, journals, e-resources, databases)Maintain cataloguing, classification, circulation, and inventory systemsEnsure smooth functioning of library software and digital tools2.
Student Learning SupportGuide students in research, inquiry, and independent learningTeach information literacy, citation skills, and ethical use of sources (plagiarism awareness)Support IB Extended Essay, Internal Assessments, and research projects3. Collaboration with TeachersWork closely with IB teachers to integrate library resources into Units of InquiryCo-plan research-based assignments and reading programmesSupport cross-curricular learning and ATL (Approaches to Learning) skills4. Reading Culture DevelopmentPromote reading habits through book clubs, reading challenges, storytelling sessions, and author interactionsCurate age-appropriate and IB-aligned reading lists5.
Digital & Research SupportManage e-library platforms and digital databasesTrain students and staff in effective research strategies and online resource usage6. Administrative & ComplianceBudgeting and procurement of library resourcesMaintain records, reports, and library policiesEnsure copyright compliance and ethical resource usagePrerequisites / Eligibility CriteriaEssential Qualifications:Bachelor's Degree in Library Science (B.Lib / B.Lib.I.Sc.)Preferably Master's in Library Science (M.Lib / M.Lib.I.Sc.)Additional qualification in Education is an advantageExperience:2-5 years of experience as a school librarian (IB or international curriculum preferred)Experience with digital libraries and library management systems (LMS)Key Skills:Strong knowledge of IB philosophy (inquiry-based learning)Excellent research and information literacy skillsProficiency in ICT tools and digital cataloguing systemsStrong communication and student engagement skillsAbility to collaborate with faculty across PYP/MYP/DP levelsDesirable Attributes:Familiarity with databases like JSTOR, Britannica, EBSCO, etc.Experience supporting Extended Essay (EE) and academic researchPassion for reading culture development in children and adolescentsOrganizational and documentation skills
