Job Description
Senior Mechanical Engineer – AECOM Buildings + Place Location: Markham/Thornhill office (hybrid work). Some travel may be required. Scope: Lead building projects including commercial, institutional, and light industrial facilities such as Water and Wastewater Treatment Plants and Sewage Lift Stations.
Major Responsibilities Mechanical Project Lead responsible for design and construction administration. Independently perform all tasks necessary to complete primary design at early stages and develop the concept to detailed design, coordinating with all disciplines. Design HVAC, controls, plumbing, and fire protection systems.
Perform HVAC calculations and analysis using industry programs (Carrier HAP). Perform calculations, conduct design drawing reviews, and field investigations. Ensure design conforms with all applicable codes and client standards.
Write/edit mechanical specifications. Travel to construction sites to conduct mechanical inspections and prepare reports. Participate in business development and proposal writing.
Prepare and deliver clear reports to technical or non‑technical audiences. Have working knowledge of the LEED rating system or other green rating systems. Provide guidance to junior engineers.
Qualifications Minimum Requirements: University Degree in Mechanical Engineering. Six (6) years of experience designing HVAC and plumbing for commercial, institutional, and light industrial facilities. Demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education may be considered.
Preferred Requirements: Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in Ontario. 15+ years of experience. Strong consulting industry background in Canada. In-depth knowledge of HVAC (including hydronic systems) and controls.
Design knowledge of plumbing and fire protection systems. Experience in LEED/Net Zero design preferred. Well organized, self‑directed work habits with ability to prioritize, schedule, and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Very strong communication skills, both spoken and written; good presentationskills. Able to work independently or as part of a team. Able to obtain security clearance for government work.
Additional Information Relocation is not available for this position. Sponsorship for Canadian employment authorization is not available for this position. Compensation Range: CAD 130,000 – CAD 175,000 per year.
