Python & Distributed Systems Software Engineer the Risk Development team of a world-class Quantitative Hedge Fund. Due to an internal move, an opportunity has come about for an enthusasitic and deeply technical Software Engineer to join a core team who design, build, and evolve a flexible, scalable, and influential Risk, Portfolio Research and Monitoring platform that is both scalable and resilient with an architecture spanning Python, Java, Scala and C++ on Bare Metal Linux and Kubernetes. Our client is one of the World's Elite Quant Hedge Fund Managers with large-scale, massively Distributed Systems, and ample opportunity for Engineering-at-Scale on huge, big ticket projects in an environment boasting 100,000+ Kubernetes cores.
The business have also recently been benchmarked as one of the UK top-10 most advanced users of Artificial Intelligence. They boast a highly lean and flat, non-hierarchical business, which has very little in the way of siloes - unlike many of their industry peers - and therefore engineers are fortunate enough to take ownership of projects and relationships end-to-end across the firm. This operating model relies on strong collaboration and communication skills.
Requirements Strong programming skills in Python and at least one programming language (Java, Scala, C++, Rust...), and SQL. Knowledge of distributed systems and messaging technologies (Kafka, Kinesis or similar). Experience with data engineering (Relational databases, building data pipelines, Lakehouse systems, etc).
Experience with cloud, container and micro service infrastructures (e.g. Kubernetes, Docker, Helm). Knowledge of data modelling, data warehousing, and ETL design patterns.
Experience with workflow orchestration and scheduling platforms (Airflow, Dagster or similar). Real-time system development experience and passionate bout engineering best practice. Good experience appropriately applying AI Tooling (Claude, Codex, Gemini...)
