Job Description
Senior Scientific Lead The Role Represent AgriSearch as a trusted independent voice, communicating research findings, scientific evidence and emerging policy developments to industry, government and other stakeholders. Ensure the scientific quality, integrity and credibility of AgriSearch's research, publications and technical outputs, maintaining high standards of evidence and independent scientific assessment. Provide independent scientific scrutiny and critical evaluation of research evidence used in policy, regulatory and industry discussions, ensuring that conclusions and recommendations are robust, relevant and applicable to Northern Ireland.
Identify emerging challenges, opportunities and knowledge gaps, helping to shape future research, innovation and evidence priorities for AgriSearch and the wider industry. Lead the AgriSearch research progamme ensuring collation and analysis of data, publication of results and dissemination of key findings to farmers and other key stakeholders. Champion evidence-led understanding of the productivity, sustainability and future potential of Northern Ireland's dairy, beef and sheep sectors.
Build and maintain strong relationships with research organisations, industry stakeholders, policymakers and scientific experts nationally and internationally, identifying opportunities for collaboration and innovation. Provide scientific leadership for AgriSearch's research and postgraduate activities, ensuring findings are translated into practical insights and effectively communicated to farmers, industry stakeholders and policymakers. Emerging challenges are identified early and addressed proactively. Research and innovation priorities are focused on industry needs. Farmers and stakeholders have access to clear, practical and objective scientific insight.
AgriSearch strengthens its position as a leading voice in livestock science and innovation. Who We Are Looking For Essential Criteria: A degree in Agriculture, Animal Science, Veterinary Science, Environmental Science or a related discipline. A PhD or equivalent senior scientific experience. 10 years experience interpreting and applying scientific evidence.
Excellent analytical, communication and stakeholder engagement skills. The ability to influence, challenge and provide independent scientific judgement. Proficient in data analysis and interpretation evidenced by scientific publications.
Experience of working at the interface between research, industry and policy. Desirable Criteria: Have a comprehensive understanding of Northern Ireland livestock production systems, including the technical, economic, environmental and policy factors influencing the dairy, beef and sheep sectors. Experience of translating scientific research into practical recommendations and outcomes for farmers and industry stakeholders.
